In 2019, I was laid off from my job of nearly 10 years. I realize that’s a strange way to start off a post about a newborn session. :-) While it was a time of uncertainty for me, I tried to have faith that things would work out. That there would be a silver lining to my situation. Luckily, I landed at a new job within a couple months, which was a major relief. But the real silver lining is that I’ve met several really great people at this job, that I wouldn’t have otherwise crossed paths with. Robyn is one of those really great people! She is just one of those people you love to have on your t ..read more

I met this lovely lady when I took family photos years ago. It was amazing to see her again as she embarked upon her senior year of high school! She wanted to do her photos with a combination of an urban setting as well as a more natural location. So we decided on Clarkston, Michigan, since it has a really cute downtown, and is super close to an amazing park (Independence Oaks). The key to doing multiple locations at your senior portrait session is making sure there is not much travel time in between. When you are taking photos during Golden Hour (the last hour or two before sunset), time is o ..read more

I promised to follow up with some adorable photos from their in-home newborn session, so get ready for some cuteness! It was so difficult to narrow these down. I also love that their fur-baby made several appearances ..read more

The only thing that I might love more than a newborn photo session, is when I get to ALSO capture maternity portraits prior to baby’s arrival. I think every mom-to-be should document this amazing time in their lives. While those 9 months might feel like forever at times (especially the last few weeks!), you will soon realize how fast it all went by. Someday, it will all feel like a hazy blur, and the only way back to that special time is through photos. I met this lovely couple at an extended family shoot, when they were not yet parents-to-be. I remember thinking how super adorable they were…a ..read more

Fall has arrived, and hopefully you have had multiple rounds of cider and donuts at this point. But do you know what is RIGHT around the corner?  The HOLIDAYS (insert screaming emoji).  And if you are anything like me (#procrastinator), you might wait until the last minute to shop for gifts.  Yes, I know it’s tempting to order all your gifts through Amazon Prime on December 21st.  But with a bit more lead time, there are some really unique gifts you can find for that special someone.  I’ve done the legwork for you (if you call online shopping “work” lol), and today I w ..read more

OK, so I’m a photographer selling my services… of course I want you to get the maternity photos. :) BUT… I write this post to you as a mom who did NOT get professional maternity photos taken. Yes, I have a few decent photos that resulted from me handing my camera over to someone else. But oh how I wish I had a magical collection of images to document that special time in my life. At the time, I didn’t know that I’d only get one chance to take that magical journey called pregnancy. What I wouldn’t give to go back and do the damn photos! I know for some, pregnancy happens somewhat easily. For o ..read more

So you’ve booked your family photo session, and now comes the hard part…figuring out what everyone is going to wear! People may not know this about me (since I’ve been living in pajamas since March… #pandemicvibes), but in a past life, I studied fashion design. I am also a self-proclaimed geek when it comes to color theory. So I thought I’d drop some of this knowledge here on my blog. Could you use a little direction for your photo session outfits? Keep reading, and make sure to read/scroll all the way to the end to see a few sample wardrobe collections I pulled together for inspiration. Firs ..read more

It’s that time of year when I start getting a lot of inquiries about Senior Portraits. Many people aren’t sure if I photograph Seniors, since my website is geared towards family and newborn photography. While documenting the connection between parents and their littles is my main jam, I also love to photograph big kids. Entering Senior year is huge! There is so much to look back on and so much to look forward to. I understand that Senior portraits are a big deal, not only for the Senior, but also for Mom & Dad. This is your baby…weren’t they just learning to walk? Weren’t they just falling ..read more

How to Photograph Your Newborn Baby at Home

Rochester, MI Photographer At the time of this post, we are currently on lockdown in Michigan due to the coronavirus. I’ve struggled with what I should be posting about, if anything, during this crazy, crazy time. Everything just seems a bit trivial. But one thing I can’t stop thinking about are all the families who have newborn babies right now. As if having a newborn isn’t crazy enough…now you need to worry about a global pandemic. There are no visitors, no easy trips to the store to pick up essentials. And while every newborn parent is already cautious of germs, right now that must b ..read more
