Arriving at the Porcupine Mountains in early spring is like stumbling upon a hidden gem. The air is crisp, the wind is an experience, and the golden hours were magical. Plus, the waterfalls are thawing, along with Lake Superior, adds a soundtrack to the whole experience. And the best part? No crowds! It's just you and nature, vibing together. You can take your time, no rush, and soak up all the peace and beauty around you. I love to visit every autumn, but winter was definitely a unique experience. If you’re looking for a fun, jam-packed few days in the Keweenaw… I’ve got you! If you’re unfamiliar with the Keweenaw Peninsula, it’s the northernmost part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and was the site of the first copper boom in the United States, leading to its nickname of "Copper Country.” It’s full of rich history, beautiful scenic sights, delicious food and incredibly kind people. I always love visiting this area! Read on for places to eat and drink, some activities to do, hikes to take, and a fun mine tour that dives into the history of the copper boom. Thank you to Visit Keweenaw for ..read more

Overnight in Copper Harbor

YAY!! I’m back with a blog post! Phew… it’s been a minute. Since winter? I’m trying to get back into the swing of things, but I don’t know! I think after… almost 14 years of blogging, a break was inevitable. And honestly content creation is shifting a bit! I love working on TikTok videos more than blog posts these days… and Instagram stories. Plus, I’ve been working with Localhood to create some Upper Peninsula content that has nothing to do with Selective Potential. Just getting out there to travel, and create content so others can enjoy. Win, win! But! I took a solo trip up to Copper Harbor ..read more

Selective Potential

If you’re looking for a way to escape the ordinary and explore a scenic winter wonderland… consider a weekend getaway to the Keweenaw in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I recently took a trip there with Bugsy, and we had an amazing time. We stayed at Fitzgerald’s and spent time a lot of time exploring the outdoors and watching the wintry scenery from the amazing view in our room. From Fitzgerald’s cozy lodging and some of the best food in the U.P. to waterfalls and lighthouses, there was no shortage of activities to keep us adventuring around. In this blog post, I’m sharing with you all what ..read more

Little Presque Isle

End of autumn vibes! ? I really love November. Like… obviously October is the best autumn month, but it’s also just… so busy, every year. And you feel this immense pressure to get all the things done because of peak color, and then there’s this guilt if you want to take a nap on a sunny day, where November… most of the color is gone, there’s less pressure, you can just enjoy the last bit of autumn and take it slow. That’s my thought, anyway. But! I recently I took a drive out to Little Presque Isle. We had some really mild November weather in the Upper Peninsula this year. So this day was so ..read more

Autumn in The Porkies

One of my favorite day trips in the Upper Peninsula (which could easily turn into a weekend or a week-long trip with how much there is to do)… is in the Porcupine Mountains! I’ve made this trip every year I’ve lived in the UP now, and in autumns before that as well. I love visiting any time of year, but autumn is just… pure magic here. ? Especially at Summit Peak and Lake of the Clouds. It’ll take your breath away! But read on for what I did during a day in the Porkies with my friend Kate who was visiting! It was so fun to show her some of these spots for the first time, she was just as blown ..read more

During my 3-week road trip this summer, my first stop downstate was to Traverse City! I’ve been wanting to spend a little extended time in this town. I feel like I haven’t explored here in a while… so I wanted to hit some familiar favorite spots. I absolutely adore visiting the Traverse area; there’s just so much to do and see (and eat and drink!) Read on… for a beautiful scenic drive, some very famous dunes, all the places I ate & drank, two lighthouses I’ve seen before (but one I was finally able to tour inside!), along with a dope coffee shop I was able to work at all day while visitin ..read more

510 Bridge

After three autumns in a row at this spot, it’s now totally a tradition. I wouldn’t miss this spot in early October for the world. It’s just… magic. It’s truly magic. And it’s so close to Marquette, about a 15 minute drive, in Negaunee, and the fall colors will just take your breath away. So if you head toward the bridge, there’s a small parking lot you can park in, and then walk to the top of the new bridge… for an insane view in both west and east directions. And then you can drive your car down to the old bridge, park, and walk across it. That’s where I get my outfit photos, but the higher ..read more

Let the autumn content begin! Man, this season is so fleeting. I feel like we’re almost halfway through it… and to me, it’s just beginning! But we’re definitely starting to see peak colors here in the Upper Peninsula. I need to venture west to get some content rolling this weekend, but life has been busy. Fun, but busy! I’ve been helping out with some Fresh Coast Film Festival design needs… be sure to check out the festival and attend if you’re in the area! Other than that, trying to up the personal style aspect to the blog for the best season to dress in, before winter hits. I’m not entirely ..read more

St. Ignace

Onto the St. Ignace leg of my road-trip! It was definitely one of the most touristy spots I visited, in the peak of summer, but I honestly loved my time spent in St. Ignace. I spent two nights here, worked mostly during the day (libraries rule), but made the most of my evenings to get out and explore. Plus I had a bit of time on Friday morning before transitioning to Drummond Island to check out some of the sights. Read on for a… trip to their lighthouse (which I lovingly refer to as rest stop lighthouse), a climb up to Castle Rock, a drive around Straits State Park, some of the best food I h ..read more
