Bronwyn Bridges, a scientist and entrepreneur from Newfoundland, has raised more than $2.5 million to help people living with Parkinson’s disease get treatment faster.  The ailment affects one in 500 Canadians, and approximately 6,600 are diagnosed each year, according to UCB Canada. Bridges developed a platform designed to be used in doctors’ offices to assess patient symptoms that can be deployed in rural communities, which often lack specialized practitioners able to diagnose. Q1 Canadian VC funding posts mixed results as PE market rebounds, CVCA reports

The first quarter of 2024 saw mixed results in terms of venture capital (VC) funding and a significant pickup in private equity (PE) activity, according to a new report. Nearly $1.3 billion CAD in total VC financing was deployed into Canadian technology startups across 128 deals during Q1, per data collected by the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA). Montréal-based Lightspeed Commerce saw its stock jump 15 percent on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) at market open Thursday as it reported strong year-over-year revenue growth in the fourth quarter and announced founder Dax Dasilva would remain as its permanent CEO. Relocalize closes $2.3 million to decarbonize the food supply chain with micro-factories

Montréal-based cleantech startup Relocalize has secured a $2.3-million CAD seed extension from Desjardins Capital and existing backer RGS Ice to hasten the development and deployment of its technology-powered micro-factories.
