Hi guys hope everyone is well. I’m new to the community trading world and was looking for the best software or subscription to use to get realistic cash prices for agri commodities. Eg corn, wheat, Soybean, Soybean meal. I would like cash prices for like the current month and the next few months ideally. I have a workspace Reuters account. However I have realised it doesn’t update regularly with all the commodities. I have been recommended S&P Platts to use for cash prices. Does anyone have any experience with Platts or recommends any other websites, subscriptions or software to use. Than ..read more

Still early in the season with notable issues mainly in Iowa, Kansas, and southeast Nebraska for the main crops - Corn, Soybeans, and Wheat. Most of the crop is not planted, so it's not a massive issue but we are heading into the most volatile period of grain pricing. Let's see how it turns out - below is a quick update week/week on where we stand. Grain Production Areas Experiencing Drought (+/- weekly change) ?Corn: 23% (+0%) ☁️Cotton: 9% (+0%) ?Sorghum: 50% (+16%) ?Soybeans: 21% (-1%) ?Spring Wheat: 26% (+0%) ?Winter Wheat: 30% (+6%) submitted by /u/GrainStats [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I joined a few months ago and in the last couple months I noticed an increasing number of posts and interesting discussions. Do you think the industry is getting more and more well-known and mainstream? Or is it just people realising this sub exist? Whichever of them holds I'm happy with these developments. submitted by /u/Limp-Efficiency-159 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How are oil swaps priced?

I understand the basics of how swaps work (2 parties, exchange of cashflows etc…). But if I’m looking at say the Naphtha vs. Brent swap curve on ICE, I’m not really understanding what that is, what it’s showing me, and how it’s priced (considering the definition I have in mind for the swap). I know I’m missing something but not sure where to look. Could anyone explain to me please? Thank you! submitted by /u/greattiming92 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Physical Commodity Trading - Lifestyle, Breaking in, Compensation

Hey All, Background: I am starting an MBA @ Columbia Business School after ~7 years of infrastructure investment banking (tier 1 bulge bracket bank) where I worked on decently involved transactions within the energy space such as gas prepays. I realize I probably do not need an MBA for this but only started exploring this sector a few weeks ago. I want to move into a more markets facing role in which the product is still tangible, the day-to-day moves quickly, and following geopolitics / macro-economics is paramount - physical commodity trading seems like a cool next step. Trying to decide between UNIGE and Duke/Fuqua’s MQM program. I will have to see which traineeships I can secure, but I now have a backup position for UNIGE as well. Has anyone come across Duke grads in physical trading? Saw some in Cargill from me looking around. Thanks! submitted by /u/Due-Boysenberry-8538 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What value does Trafigura, Vitol, and other private traders bring to the market?

Sorry for asking such a novice sounding question but I'm trying to understand what value a private trader of physicals brings to the market? Companies like Trafigura and Vitol are doing billions of dollars worth of business. Don't the big exchanges like the CME already bring buyers and sellers together? I guess I'm asking why a buyer or seller of say crude oil would use a private trader instead of an exchange? Or are they just like Wall Street Investment Bankers who use capital to make bets on the price direction of a commodity on the exchange? submitted by /u/amriksingh1699 [visit reddit ..read more
