Nick King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK It’s not a formal game, but score will be kept in an offensive vs defense showdown. Michigan State Football will be taking to Spartan Stadium for some actual football this weekend. The Spring game had devolved into a glorified practice with some drills under former Coach Mel Tucker. After the team’s practice on Tuesday, new head coach Jonathan Smith promised this experience will have a more game-like atmosphere. “It’ll be a little bit offense and defense. But the clocks going to run, trying to create a game-like atmosphere for most of it ..read more

Chris Pietsch/The Register-Guard / USA TODAY NETWORK The transfer portal gives and takes for the women’s basketball team. Michigan State’s women’s basketball program got a big upgrade through the transfer portal this week: Grace VanSlooten. VanSlooten may only measure 6’3”, but she plays bigger and will add some front court power to the Spartans. VanSlooten was the leading scorer on a disappointing Oregon squad last year. She averaged 15 points and 7.1 rebounds while starting all 31 games for the Ducks. Across her two years at Oregon, the versatile forward was given All-PAC-12 honorable mentio ..read more

Photo by Jacob Kupferman/Getty Images Could MSU get their first new player soon? We knew this was going to be an offseason full of intrigue and suspense, not to mention massive consequences, for Tom Izzo’s program. The Spartans are seeing their top two scorers from last season, Tyson Walker and Malike Hall, departing as they are out of eligibility. The starting PG, AJ Hoggard, has probably played his last game for MSU, though no official announcements have been made on that subject. It should be remembered that Hoggard tested the draft process a year ago before deciding to come back for his se ..read more

Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images And I have mixed feelings about it I could not bring myself to put a picture of this article’s subject as the lead photo of this article, simply because it would be someone in um paraphernalia. Reports came out yesterday that Tom Izzo would be interviewing current um assistant coach Saddi Washington for the vacancy on his staff left by the departure of Mark Montgomery. On the one hand, this could be a solid hire. Saddi has been a part of the staff for a few respectable coaches... and one horrible one. He began his coaching career in the high school ranks a ..read more

Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK March Madness comes to an end in the final between a Big Ten powerhouse and a Big East’s team looking to repeat. Big Ten foe Purdue is taking on Big East powerhouse (and defending national champion) UConn tonight. The matchup sees two seven footers face off in the national title game for the first time since 1984. Purdue’s Zach Edey is a well known problem for Spartan fans, but UConn’s 7’2” Donovan Clingan is a beast. This game should be exciting start to finish.
