Stay Calm and Adopt a Dog
Dog Gone Seattle

Guest Post by Dog Gone Seattle adopter Julie D. Barnes I acquired my first ever dog a few months ago, an eight week old Terrier mix.  The timing had never been right before: I either worked too many hours or rented non-pet-friendly apartments.  My six year old son was desperate for a puppy, and now that we finally had a home with a private securely fenced yard, I struggled for a reason to say no.   Admittedly, I had always wanted an Old English Sheepdog, but did not think it would be fair to keep one in a city dwelling when they need a lot of space.  I also became ..read more

It is a crazy time in the world, and very busy at Dog Gone Seattle as we have been focusing all our energy on rescuing dogs like Eddie, who was one of two dogs left behind at a California shelter that was closing its doors. We are overjoyed at the increase in foster and adoption applications that have been coming in during the last few weeks! For every dog adopted, we get to save another that is at risk.⁣ ⁣ All of these newly adopted dogs will love having their families home with them, but having your new best friend as a constant shadow now may cause some separation anxiety when things event ..read more

Thoughts and Actions on COVID-19
Dog Gone Seattle
by Jenny DB Nordin

This is a very scary time, and I think we are all wondering how we will look back on 2020. There are so many unknowns as we navigate a new way of life, with the fortunate folks working from home while others have been or soon will be laid off, kids homeschooling, grocery store shelves barren, and no toilet paper or traffic in sight. Many of us have loved ones that we are very concerned for; I count myself in this group and have a great deal anxiety over the safety of my immune-compromised hero-father. For those who have lost a friend or loved one to COVID-19, I can’t even imagine the pain and ..read more

An Open Letter to the Anonymous Haters
Dog Gone Seattle

10 minute read by Dog Gone Seattle Founder/Director Jenny Nordin. TL;DR Dog Gone Seattle is being slandered and harassed by anonymous individual(s) who have made it their mission to take down anyone allegedly affiliated with Jeff Gellman/Solid K9 Training. DGS has attended Solid K9 Training seminars but has never hired Gellman to train rescue dogs and has never witnessed animal abuse during these seminars. DGS ascribes to LIMA training, employing the least intrusive minimally aversive methods necessary, and has never abused any animals in its care. DGS has successfully rehabilitated and rehome ..read more

photo credit. If you’ve never owned a pet before, it can be a life-changing decision for your entire family. That’s why it’s important to do some research and think hard about the type of animal you want, what sort of changes you’ll need to make to your home and lifestyle to help him fit in, and the best ways to keep him safe and happy, especially if he’s a rescue animal. Don’t Let Your Dog Shake Hands Like Donald Trump: The 3-Second-Rule for Dog Introductions
Dog Gone Seattle
by Jenny DB Nordin

Most everyone has seen the videos of President Trump and his inappropriate handshakes that go on for way too long! A normal handshake, between two ‘consenting adults’ is brief. A handshake is an introduction: You don’t know the person. You don’t death grip their hand. You don’t hold on for too long. You introduce yourself, and then you let go. Both parties participate, briefly, and then release. When a physical interaction with someone you don’t know goes on for too long, it’s awkward. It’s uncomfortable. It’s not appropriate. It causes tension. The same is true for dogs! Over and over again ..read more

For Adopters: What to Do During a Dog Meet and Greet
Dog Gone Seattle
by Jenny DB Nordin
2y ago
So you want to adopt a dog? That’s wonderful! At Dog Gone Seattle, we are always looking to match the right family with the right dog. Once we have ‘approved’ an application, the next step in the process is a meet and greet! This is an opportunity for you to meet the dog you are interested in adopting, and also for the case manager or foster to meet you. Consider this a “mutual interview” and please know that a meet and greet is not a guarantee of adoption. We need to feel good about the placement, and of course you do as well. That being said, here are some tips for potential adopters to hel ..read more
