Help Stop Animal Cruelty in the Bronx In the world of animal welfare, there are always battles to be fought on behalf of innocent creatures. One of our shelter partners, Little Wanderers NYC, has been fighting a battle for years to put an end to a horrific culture of abuse right in their own community in the Bronx. Local Pit Bull breeders have been collecting stray cats and forcing their dogs to attack, rip and kill them for sport. The evidence is clear and all too heartbreaking. You can view the video posted on the Little Wanderers Instagram page, but we warn you it is very graphic and d ..read more

April is the Coolest Month
North Shore Animal League America

April is the Coolest Month Celebrating volunteers everywhere. The best things about volunteering happen in the quiet moments when you do something for someone and realize without being thanked or recognized that what you did made life a little sweeter, easier, and safer for another. Sometimes volunteers save lives; sometimes they enrich lives. But honestly, whatever you give is nothing compared to the satisfaction and sense of purpose you receive in return. April is National Volunteer Month, so I want to take this moment to thank everyone who gives their time, talents, and energy to a cause ..read more

North Shore Animal League America

Pets are not just like family, they are family. That’s why it was so heartbreaking when we first learned about Violet. Found abandoned in an empty home when her family packed up and moved away, Violet was suffering from a painful skin infection and nursing her litter of nine puppies. With no access to food or water, Violet was in desperate need of help. Our Mobile Rescue Team answered the call from our shelter partner, Friends of Marshall Animals in Marshall, Texas, who first discovered Violet. She was painfully underweight, and her coat was very patchy. When she arrived at our ..read more

Trapping.

Question If someone is threatening to trap and kill my cat, who is microchipped and has a collar, what can I do? Answer I am sorry to hear about your situation. Keeping your cat indoors would prevent people from trapping and harming your cat. Depending on the relationship with the person making the threats, an animal’s “parent” can also try to get a protection order. Michigan law states that the person seeking the order may seek to enjoin “… Any of the following with the intent to cause the petitioner mental distress or to exert control over the petitioner with respect to an animal in which th ..read more

Getting my dog back.
North Shore Animal League America
by Elinor Molbegott

Question Due to time constraints, I had to give my dog to a foster/adoption organization. However, less than a few hours after giving him up, I contacted the agency to see if I could get my dog back, but they said no. When they came to pick up my dog, they did not provide me with any paperwork to confirm the exchange. I asked them again if I could get my dog back because I realized I had made a mistake in giving him up. Now, the organization has been harassing me and threatening me, claiming that I abandoned my dog, which I did not. The dog was very well taken care of—he was neutered, groomed ..read more
