The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Tulsi Gabbard as President Donald Trump’s director of national intelligence after Republicans who had initially questioned her experience and judgment fell in line behind her nomination.
Gabbard was an unconventional pick to oversee and coordinate the country’s 18 different intelligence agencies, given her past comments sympathetic to Russia, a meeting she held with now-deposed Syrian President Bashar Assad and her previous support for government leaker Edward Snowden.
Gabbard, a military veteran and former Democratic congresswoman from Haw ..read more

If you watch Jaylen Brown’s final dunk from the 2024 NBA Slam Dunk contest, you’ll notice Donovan Mitchell doesn’t look particularly comfortable as the Boston Celtics star leaps over him for the jam.
It turns out there’s a reason for that.
During Brown’s appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” host Jimmy Fallon asked the Celtics All-Star how many times he and Mitchell practiced their routine before taking the big stage. According to Brown, the answer was zero — because Mitchell left him hanging.
“I tried to practice it with Donovan, but he didn’t show up,” Brown said. “So, shout-out to Donovan ..read more

NASA’s two stuck astronauts may end up back on Earth a little sooner than planned.
The space agency announced Tuesday that SpaceX will switch capsules for upcoming astronaut flights in order to bring Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams home in mid-March instead of late March or April. That will shave at least a couple weeks off their prolonged stay at the International Space Station, which hit the eight-month mark last week.
“Human spaceflight is full of unexpected challenges,” NASA’s commercial crew program manager Steve Stich said in a statement.

U.S. inflation accelerated last month as the cost of groceries, gas, and used cars rose, a trend that will likely underscore the Federal Reserve’s resolve to delay any further interest rate cuts.
The consumer price index increased 3% in January from a year ago, Wednesday’s report from the Labor Department showed, up from 2.9% the previous month. It has increased from a 3 1/2 year low of 2.4% in September.
The figures underscore the stickiness of inflation, which created a major political problem for former President Joe Biden. President Donald Trump pledged to reduce prices in l ..read more

The final inflation report covering the Biden administration shows President Donald Trump inherited an unfavorable inflation situation. Still, some economic policymakers say that, overall, the U.S. economy remains in solid shape.
Prices for so-called core items, which exclude food and energy, were expected to have remained unchanged in January, at about 3.2%.
That is well above the Federal Reserve’s official 2% goal. The core measure does not include data like egg prices, which have soared as a result of the ongoing effects of avian flu, putting further pressure on consumers.   ..read more
