Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff issued proclamations for Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. At the Monday, April 15 regular council meeting, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) were recognized along with American Heart Association Heartsaver Heroes who provided life-saving actions during a sudden cardiac arrest event. Council receives updates on bond projects

Council received a quarterly 2021 bond update on approved projects last week from City Manager Gina Nash and Police Chief Bryan Sylvester. Road projects include the expansion and upgrades to Sachse Road from Miles Road to city limits, upgrading and developing several city streets and roads including Bailey-Hooper Road from SH 78 to Sachse Road, Williford Road from SH 78 to Bailey Road, West Creek Lane from Sachse Road to Timbercreek Court and reconstructing neighborhood and residential streets. District wraps up 80th livestock show

Run For Our Heroes charity run set for April 27

An annual spring free event that honors and supports local veterans and first responders is back for the 13th year. Opening ceremonies for this year’s 1LT Robert F. Welch III Run For Our Heroes begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Olde City Park downtown. The 5K Run/Walk and 1-mile fun run start at 9 a.m. Registration to participate is $10, which includes a swag bag, or $20 for registration with a swag bag and a t-shirt. Students ‘super excited’ about solar eclipse

People traveled from all over the world to see the eclipse Monday, April 8, but for Garland and Wylie ISD students, the path of totality was right outside their classrooms. Lady Mustangs take title at district meet

The Sachse Lady Mustangs won the District 9-6A meet at Williams Stadium, scoring 172 points at the event. The beat out Wylie East, who put up 148 points, with no other teams scoring more than 93. (Austin Smith/The Sachse News) It’s been quite the year for the Sachse girls athletic programs. The volleyball, basketball and soccer seasons all saw the Lady Mustangs bring home district titles, and the girls track and field team followed suit on Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4. Residents from Collin/Dallas County cities with spring general elections will head to the polls later this month to begin the early voting process to elect city council members in contested races. Election Day is Saturday, May 4. In Sachse, Place 1 incumbent Mayor pro tem Brett Franks, who has served since 2012, has been challenged by Atif Ahmed. Place 2 incumbent Michelle Howarth faces Beau Hooten and Nisar Razvi in her bid for a third term. Two places on the Wylie City Council are contested. Millions of people across the country are traveling to the path of totality, which includes Sachse, to view the once-in-a-lifetime four-minute total solar eclipse next week.
