I’d like to become an Orthodox Christian, yet I’m scared on what my family will think about it.

I’ve been raised in an a Non-denominational church all my life, and I’ve grown to cherish my community and church family deeply. Yet I’ve been doing some research about church branches for a few months now, and I decided I’d like to change my branch and become Orthodox. Yet the problem is, how do I tell my parents. My family is kind, for certain, but pretty hardcore on their beliefs. I’ve tried to give them subtle hints on my opinion yet when they seem to pick it up they seem… disappointed or just plain worried. I’ve talked to my mom about my research yet on some parts she seemed uncomfortabl ..read more

I need to get back on track although I've never been back on the track fully. I've fallen off more then ever. Please pray for me, I finally got state insurance and I wanna go too the hospital starting May because of a back issue that's crippling me. I also would like to say I wanna get more on track with not lusting and having bad anxiety. I hope for my life to get better and for at least less pain physically and mentally. submitted by /u/ch59ep15DriverDown [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Friends I have a doubt that I feel is restraining me from a life in Christ

I feel I am standing at a crossroad with two possible paths to embark on. One is Christianity, and the other is a life in the pleasures of this world. What I must know beyond the shadow of a doubt is if Christ has indeed risen. Devoid of this knowledge, there is no certainty in anything. So here I will present my doubt. What if the apostolic fathers were passively suicidal and spread the faith without absolute conviction in it? This question tortures me and restrains me from the contentment of a life in Christ. submitted by /u/clara--bow [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello, I am a 16 year old Belgian boy who dreams of one day being ordained as a priest. The thing is that I am Ukrainian orthodox but don't speak Ukrainian. Would it still be possible for me to become a priest one day? Could someone also explain to me how this process would go if the answer is yes, so which kind of things i'll have to do to be ordained? Thank you in advance, God bless you! submitted by /u/dennisprinceps [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Insights on True Repentance (St. John Climacus)

by /u/IrinaSophia

Repentance is the renewal of baptism. Repentance is a contract with God for a second life. A penitent is a buyer of humility. Repentance is constant distrust of bodily comfort... Repentance is the daughter of hope and the renunciation of despair... Repentance is reconciliation with the Lord by the practice of good deeds contrary to the sins. Repentance is purification of conscience. Repentance is the voluntary endurance of all afflictions. Do not be surprised that you fall every day; do not give up, but stand your ground courageously. And assuredly the angel who guards you will honor your ..read more

Would Holy Pascha be a bad day to visit the local Cathedral?

I’ve been learning about orthodoxy for awhile now (online and other media, books) and have been wanting to visit the semi-local cathedral for some time. My younger brother is coming to visit soon and I asked my dad and him if they wanted to attend Divine Liturgy the Sunday he was here and they both said yes. Well, turns out that is May 5, which is Holy Pascha this year. The Sunday schedule seems to vary, but always has times for Orthos, Vespers, Divine Liturgy, etc., but on May 5 is just says HOLY PASCHA with no time, and Agape Vespers at 1 pm. TL;DR Is Holy Pascha a bad day to visit an Ortho ..read more

Question about fasting

First, I understand that fasting is something to discuss with your local priest, but in general, if I wanted to fast today, what would I avoid? It's 4/24 and the calendar says no meats, fish, dairy, eggs, oils, wine. So does that mean I can't eat anything that includes egg in the ingredients, like pasta? Nothing that contains saturated oils? Or dairy in the recipe? Like, how strict is this, is what I mean. When it says eggs can I have pasta, but not an omelet? Can I have a salad dressing that contains milk in the ingredients but not a glass of milk? submitted by /u/sneakerheadFTC [visit redd ..read more

Who Am I but a Sinner?
Reddit » Orthodox Christianity

Who am I but a sinner. A dirty, filthy, shameful sinner. Who am I to call myself a Catholic, or a Christian, or Orthodox for all I am is a sinner and nothing but that. There are priests, martyrs, and monks who devote their entire lives to Christ and in the end are still sinners. How can one own up to their sins, repent, and vow to sin no longer, when all the human race knows is sin? There are those who devote their lives and well-being to the Lord our God and still fail to make it into heaven. And who am I, one who lives in sin, one who lives in materialism, one who works every Sunday for mon ..read more
