9 Benefits of Volunteering Abroad Development Initiatives estimates that 9% of the world lived in poverty in 2021. Coincidentally, many of the worst-affected countries abound in natural beauty and possess vast natural resources. On the upside, volunteering abroad can help tip the scales, and provides much needed relief and resources to the local communities. Whether you’re fresh out of university, taking time off, or keen to explore a new path, you can play ..read more

How Volunteering Changed my Teenager
African Impact - Conservation & Community Volunteering

I can honestly say I have never been prouder of him. It is hard to put in to words how thrilled and in awe he sounded of the things he was seeing and experiencing. This was not a holiday, but so much more than that. It blew him and us away. Liam was 16 and in a rut. Teenage apathy, indecision, irritability! He’d also been through a difficult time that wasn’t his fault: this had all added to a loss of confidence and motivation. When he started to talk about a holiday, we were quick to tell him that we weren’t going to be paying for him to go to Tenerife to sit on a beach with his mates. But he ..read more

Travelling During Covid - My Experience Last month, I made the journey back to Zimbabwe from London. This is my second time of making this journey back since the pandemic started. The first time was in October 2020, just after the Zimbabwe and Southern Africa’s international borders had reopened. The experience a year ago was very different to the usual way of travel. Airports were much quieter; flights were much emptier and the general admin around travel was almost overwhelming. One year on, this couldn’t be much more different! As part of my route, I transited through some of the busiest ..read more

Our Wildlife Rehabilitation: Rescue and Release volunteer project is situated at Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre in a small town called Tzaneen, in South Africa. Co-owner, Emma, tells us how the centre came about. My name is Emma De Jager and I am one of the co-owners of Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre. I was born and raised in the UK just outside London, but I knew from an early age that working with animals was what I wanted to do in the world. When I was little we were that house on the street that people would bring in injured birds or mammals to help. So really I have been working with ani ..read more
