We are delighted to welcome Tukuwool DK to space! Tukuwool yarns are spun and dyed in Finland using only Finnish wool and minimal processing. Finnsheep are a heritage breed sheep and are part of Finland’s national identity. They are adapted to the colder weather and rough terrain of Finland. Their wool has a soft hand with a moderate crimp. This yarn has a lovely sticky hand and holds cables and colorwork very well. It blocks beautifully and will soften with each wash. Tukuwool DK is a woolen spun yarn – making it light and airy with a slightly rustic look and texture. Born from the love of ..read more

Have you heard of Manos del Uruguay? Fairmount Fibers is the company that exists solely to bring this fantastic yarn to the United States. The Manos del Uruguay cooperative was formed in 1968. Begun by five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where there were, and are still, few opportunities for work, the cooperative began modestly by selling handcrafts at local shops and the annual agricultural show in Montevideo. Each skein of Manos del Uruguay yarn purchased helps a woman to support her family. Each skein is signed, so you will know who made your y ..read more

Based in New York State in the Hudson Valley, Jill Draper specializes in hand-dyed yarns, sourced from nearby Albany County. Empire is the first yarn where Jill worked with a local farmer to design and custom spin the yarn. Jill first met Tom, a local farmer, through those fun networks of small towns that bring people together- he was looking for a market for his so ..read more

Cherry blossoms and spring sun have us plotting out new projects, and the fresh arrival of Freia Solemates and Flux Socks is just what we need. If you’ve been catching on the same spring news as some of our yarnistas, you might have learned about the local maritime tradition of sock burning- gathering to burn last year’s socks to greet warm weather and freeing our feet until next winter. We don’t advocate burning hand-knits, but we absolutely support knitting up new socks- the perfect project for spring break travel, or early summer get-aways! The Staple Linen Tank is the perfect capsule wardrobe piece – it can truly do it all. You can layer it with slacks and a blazer, pair it with a pencil skirt, and throw it on with jeans for a day out on the town. It can even layer over a button-down or shirt dress as a vest.
