The Riverbank Grape pullover launches to everyone today! Meg wearing the Riverbank Grape Sweater This pattern was inspired by riverbank grapes, also called frost grapes, which are native to New Brunswick, Canada! These grapes grow in thick twining tendrils near water sources and produce an intense purple-coloured grape. This sweater’s design takes inspiration from these vines, with thick cables growing up the sleeves. They’re a simple cable to work while adding great interest and detail to the sweater. The pattern has a narrow scoop neck, which starts at the armhole shaping. It has rope cables ..read more

The third and last pattern in Kate’s Lockdown collection is launching today! The Eccleston Jacket A CustomFit design By Kate Atherley A classic casual drop-shoulder pullover, using classic gansey-style patterning: a mix of ribs and garter ridges. Style it with jeans for comfy weekend wear, throw it over your pjs for relaxing at home on a chilly winter evening. In the photographs, it’s worn with an average fit for a tidy – almost tailored – styling. For a more traditional or casual looks, choose a relaxed or even oversized fit. This week, we’re launching the second pattern in Kate’s new Lockdown Collection! The Eccleston Jacket A CustomFit design By Kate Atherley A cropped jacket in a simple but effective all-over texture pattern, a clever knit-and-purl interpretation of a plaid. Deep garter edgings and a high collar lend a casual flair to this versatile piece. Wear it like a bomber jacket, with jeans and a t-shirt for weekend flair; for office-wear or dinner dates, style it like a boxy ‘Chanel’- type jacket with a skirt, or over a dress. As shown, it’s buttonless; the wide garter edgings are a super way to show of ..read more

New CustomFit Pattern!

I’ve been working behind the scenes to get the business side of things up and running since I last posted my introduction. The plan, over the next several months, is to move CustomFit to its own site (eventually it will live at CustomFitKnits.com). There is a lot of back-end work that has to go into this, along with the standard maintenance that goes on for any website. It’s not visible and it’s not exciting, but it’s very important, and sets the foundation for lots of excellent developments in the future. That’s not what we’re here for today though! Today we are here today to celebrate the la ..read more

Hello to everyone! This is Meg, writing to you all for the first time. I’m sorry this post took so long, I had a family emergency right after the announcement. 2021 has a terrible sense of timing.  I’ve seen the comments from people wanting to know more about me, so let me introduce myself in the classic internet style, with ten bullet points about me and my knitting history:  I learned to knit at some point as a child, but everyone who was there is a little foggy on when exactly, and who taught me. I remember when I was little learning that my grandfathers knew how to knit, but onl ..read more

Hello, lovely knitters. It’s been ages since we’ve talked – again. We last spoke in early March last year, just after Kate came on board and just before the COVID shutdowns arrived. I had 3 different projects on the needles, regular business travel that gave me the chance to make steady progress on them, and a corporate position that allowed for meaningful side projects. Since then… well, 2020 was a whirlwind of a year despite me being home for the longest stretch in more than 20 years. In June, I started a new position closer to home at Travelers. In September, I started an MBA program for mi ..read more

Howdy everyone, and happy March! I hope you’re all doing well, and enjoying whatever kind of weather you’re getting at this time of year. Here in Connecticut, things are warming up and my snowdrops are braving the intermittent frosts and showing us their beautiful blooms. I have just a quick update for you today; I thought I’d share what’s on my needles, and a new design I’ve built into CustomFit. I’d love to know what’s on your needles and what’s inspiring you this month as well – please share in the comments! No longer a ‘monogamous’ knitter?! I’ve been a one-project-at-a-time ..read more

Now in CustomFit: Drop Shoulder Sweaters

Hello, knitters! It’s impossible to overstate how excited I am to be writing this post. You can now create a drop shoulder custom pattern via CustomFit. On the customization page, a new drop-down called “construction” will allow you to choose either the currently-existing set-in sleeve construction, or (for allowed designs) the drop shoulder construction. What will selecting the drop shoulder construction do? Good question! Selecting the “drop shoulder” construction has two major effects: The sleeves and armholes will be written to match a drop shoulder vs. a set-in sleeve ..read more

Happy new year, knitters! (Is it still fair for me to say that even though it’s February?) Knitting-wise, 2019 was a pretty strange year for me. I knit quite a lot, of course, but struggled to find the time to share it with all of you. I missed admiring your knitting, seeing what was popular and what was new, and generally being part of this community. Business-wise, while I managed to basically keep up with email and the monthly subscriber lessons, and run my final retreat… …but there were plenty more rough edges than I’m really comfortable with. (I couldn’t decide which color when ..read more
