I’m studying bachelor of health science in paramedicine in New Zealand. The course is 3 years, and I was wondering what the process is to transfer to Canada. (Also, if this is the wrong sub for this kind of question, please direct me to the proper sub) submitted by /u/Worth_Motor_9319 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I've emailed NREMT with no response. I'm doing the re-entry pathway over 2 years lapsed. I have refresher courses done, BLS done. If I wait til after July 1st, is the process where you just have to take the new written test? submitted by /u/MiqoSoCrazy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

CPAP or EPI as second line treatment of status asthmatic?

I’m a newer medic and this is a question I feel like I should know. However in the case of severe asthma attack with bronchospasms refractory to beta agonists would you consider CPAP or IM EPI as a secondary treatment to be given first? Or both? If both then in which order? I understand assisted PPV, and Mag would also be a consideration. Edit: For some background info I had a call similar to this and I drew up IM Epi; my partner thought that was incorrect and said I should’ve used CPAP which I disagreed with. Thanks for the input in advance. submitted by /u/Doc-Shadi [visit reddit] [comment ..read more

Just wondering how the job opportunities are for ACP’s in BC. Planning on retiring from Sask soon and will be moving to BC. Looking more for industrial and other opportunities, not interested in working car and on the street - 30 years of that is more than enough for me. submitted by /u/BigBoppy1969 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi everyone! I am currently a master's student in the Applied Psychology program at Tarleton State University. The focus of my thesis is first responders and the factors that may influence social perception. For the study, you will read a short story and then answer a few questions. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential and anonymous, and the data collected will be used only for research purposes. Thank you in advance for your valuable input and support! Here is a link to the survey: https://tarleton.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form ..read more

Australian student wondering about Canada

Hey everyone, I'm a third and final year paramedic student from Australia. A few weeks ago we had Medavie from Nova Scotia, Canada come and talk to us, and frankly I thought it looked awesome. Assuming they weren't lying about the pay, $42 an hour looks insane, and Nova Scotia as well looks really beautiful; I was thinking about maybe moving over for a few years before coming back and trying my luck with QAS (I don't get my opens license until mid next year so I'll miss my cohort's intake anyway). I was wondering if there was anyone here currently working in Nova Scotia who could give me an h ..read more

EMR in BC?

I’m looking to get my EMR certification this Summer at JIBC. I’m wondering how are job prospects like with BCEHS as an EMR? I know especially in the Greater Vancouver area that usually PCPs are preferred over EMR but given the current shortage, how likely are EMRs hired in Greater Vancouver? Do they place you in Rural/DTES/Interior for a couple months or is that no longer a thing? One of my friends got his EMR license last year and got hired pretty quickly and got a position in the Lower Mainland. Also, how long does certification take? Essentially I’m trying to gauge how long it’ll take for ..read more

Need to vent- I felt probably what impending doom feels like and it terrified me

Hi all, I’m a 25F paramedic from NY. A few days ago, out of nowhere, my heart rate suddenly dropped into to the high 20’s and my blood pressure tanked within probably less than a minute. I managed to call my boyfriend and he ran inside, threw me on the monitor, and called 911. Right before going down I felt a crushing weight on my chest, I couldn’t breathe, and I was 100% sure I was going to die. I cannot express the panicked feeling, but the same thing I’ve seen in other patients, I felt for myself. I was gasping for air, felt crushed, and was terrified when I watched my blood pressure, rate ..read more
