I had the pleasure of chatting with MarTech's Constantine von Hoffman recently, helping to explain what deliverability is, why it matters, and what you need to know about Yahoo and Google's evolving sender requirements. In the resulting article, there's lots of great insight from Cynthia Price, SVP of Marketing at Litmus, as well! And a mention of Spam Resource! (Thanks for that, much appreciated!) Here's Mickey Chandler in one of his new videos talking about a recent decision of potential interest to those in email marketing land. This case is one of a number of recent cases alleging that open tracking is bad and evil and ultimately the allegations here don't really strike me much to write home about (as I don't think open tracking is evil), but what do I know, as I am not a lawyer.  Mickey, however, is a lawyer and found something very interesting in the court's opinion regarding Hartley -- ultimately reinforcing why permission rules.  Check out the video above, or click on ..read more

Spam Resource in the form of a word cloud

I love word clouds! They're lots of fun. They're a great way to visualize writing in a way that highlights which words and concepts were likely most important to the authors. Or, at least, the things that were most talked about. So, what if we took all the text from Spam Resource and loaded it up into a word cloud to see what it would give me? Well, that turned out to be too hard and messy since the extracted text of Spam Resource is more than 515,000 words, so forget that. What if, instead if we took all of the titles for every single Spam Resource post, all 1502 currently published article ..read more

BIMI: Adoption, example logos and provider support

BIMI (Brand Identifiers for Message Identification) is a really interesting protocol. It allows a domain owner to publish a logo, meant to be displayed alongside emails from that domain, in various email clients. It works in close conjunction with email authentication and DMARC, requiring that a domain have a DMARC policy of quarantine or reject in place before a logo can be shown. And with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC), a domain owner is able to assert that the logo displayed is valid, associated with the domain owner, and trademarked. BIMI is a good thing to help show off that you're ..read more

The case for and against double opt-in
Spam Resource

Way back in 2016, there were a series of blog posts that laid out the reasons both for and against double opt-in. Positioned as "single opt-in versus double opt-in," it was a good point/counterpoint on the topic. Sadly, a couple of the articles have succumbed to internet bit rot, so I've collected links for all four articles that lead to Internet Archive copies. Single Opt-in vs. Double Opt-in: The case for SOI: https://xnnd.com/tzoz The case for DOI: https://xnnd.com/7f88 The Court of Public Opinion: https://xnnd.com/9gvd The Verdict on Email Permission: https://xnnd.com/qpc1 Thanks to Jo ..read more
