Hello!
I currently live in Virginia, USA. I'm considering either biology or zoology but I'm leaned toward zoology. I have a few questions, particularly retaining to focusing on research.
Obviously, research will be more niche and specific as you go up levels of education. I do plan on going PhD level with this degree.
I want to focus on Rattus norvegicus (Norway Rats) or more specifically Rattus norvegicus domestica , fancy rats. These are animals typically kept as pets and used in research for various things. I currently work as an animal caretaker at a university laboratory and also own rat ..read more

Beginner thesis student. I don’t know where to start except that I am mainly interested in any study relating to cats and/or dogs. Do you have suggestions for thesis topics, preferably with easy data collection? Or any thesis topic examples so that I may draw inspiration from them.

I'm currently a freshman in high school, and I'm really set on becoming a zoologist when I'm older. I've loved animals since I was really little and have always wanted to work with them. What can I do to help myself get on a successful path to zoology? I've been looking into volunteer opportunities at animal shelters near me because I've heard how important experience is for getting into a career like this. But I do ..read more

Why does the shoebill bird look so prehistoric vs other birds? I know all birds descend from dinosaurs yadda yadda. But something about this bird looks older. Did it evolve at a slower pace? When I first saw it, I thought it wasn’t real. It looks more “ancient” than other birds.

I live in northern Georgia and spotted this guy swimming in a freshwater creek by the road. I think maybe it’s a muskrat? But I’ve also heard that we have river otters and I have seen one here before. I’ve heard of nutria further south closer to the coasts but I am north of Atlanta, hope this isn’t an invasive nutria. Can anyone help identify?
