Email is the task

This isn’t for everyone, but as a project manager, having email be the task has been the best solution for me for dealing with large volumes of email. Flow-e.com was the best solution for this, but sadly is being shut down. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it looking at it before it shuts down completely. I’m not really sure why the product didn’t survive. It was basically a Trello/kanban style email client, where you could bottle neck all tasks to come in one place (your inbox), instead of constantly trying to sync them between email, note pad, task manager, etc… If you used ..read more

Is it worth keeping my work notes in notebooks for the future?

Hi guys, I like to keep my tasks on digital while I'm working, using gtd, but the problem is that using digital to save notes and everything I learned at work ends up being lost when I'm fired or resign, since I lose access to my corporate email. Is it worth writing down my drafts, meeting notes, and business knowledge in notebooks? for future reference in any similar work... remembering that I will not keep sensitive company data, just my diary. submitted by /u/gintokiredditbr [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How to use GTD for “forever” projects?
Reddit » Getting Things Done

I find it challenging to set and define goals for projects that seemingly last forever. Projects like: Prayer, relationship with God, reading my holy book (I could always be praying) Exercising - what is enough? I want to feel a sense of completion and there are so many muscles to strengthen Career - could I be pursuing a different career? Am I on the right career path? Are there any blind spots that are blocking me? How do I define what I call “excellence” goals, not perfection goals? How do I feel good enough on these ongoing, never ending projects and feel as if I am making a difference ..read more

How do you capture without being rude in conversations?

I'm a big proponent of being present with people when I'm talking to them. But often, either because of the conversation or because of random chance, I often have things pop into my attention that I want to capture. I want to capture it in the moment so that I can get back to being completely present, but I also strongly dislike when people look at their phone or seem distracted when I talk to them so I try to avoid doing that to others. Interrupting the conversation to say "let me just write this down really quickly so I can listen fully to what you're saying" seems extra rude. I usually try ..read more

Capture Tool for GTD'er whose task manager doesnt have an inbox

Although I am a long time GTD'er I am finding more and more that it just enables procrastination too much for me. My schedule is insanely busy as a business owner and the mental load of choosing a task is sometimes as challenging as just getting it done. I have been dabbling with motion which is an AI scheduler and LOVING it. There are some quirks but it is managing my schedule and presenting what I can do at the right time thus far just a few days in. That being said it doesnt have a task inbox and I am really struggling with this workflow. Anyone using a tool that is not great for capturing ..read more

Horizons: Help me stop thinking of hierarchy

How GTD treats the higher horizons always frustrated me: David Allen never fully fleshes out this great concept. He even writes (somewhere): "GTD is a task methodology, not a life planning methodology". I have the idea that the horizons build upon one another, based on: - Their numbering scheme seems to imply it - Some programs (like FacileThings) explicitly tie items from "lower" horizons to higher ones - People often suggest MindMaps etc. for structuring horizons. - My "tickler" notes contain quotes, such as "How to make my Vision come to life?" for Goals & Objectives. That always cause ..read more

1/ Undo send I sometimes hit send when I didn't intend to. It happens. I couldn't live without the option to cancel this action. Increase your undo-send window to 30 seconds for more breathing room. 2/ Custom keyboard shortcuts Using keyboard shortcuts makes me feel like an email master. I also clean my emails in a few seconds sometimes. Take some time to learn the top keyboard shortcuts to increase your efficiency. 3/ Auto-advance After you finish dealing with an email from your inbox, auto-advance immediately takes you to your next email. It's way better than returning to the inbox screen a ..read more
