The Perfect Time A new year ⭐️ … the perfect time to reflect, reset, and set new intentions. Of course, it’s always the perfect time to be intentional about our actions and choices. (And as practitioners of GTD we already have 52 opportunities built-in — the weekly review!) So what matters most to you? What actions will bring you closer to where you want to be? Embrace the tasks and activities that bring joy and fulfillment, and maybe release the ones that don’t. What’s been cookin’? Fast FilteringThe ability to quickly drill-down to the most relevant and actionable to-do’s has been a powerful capability on desktop. We’ve now brought the same “filter bar” to mobile, making it quick and easy to filter lists based on available time, energy and context. iPhone screenshot: Focus list filtered for to-do’s related to the kids, doable within 1 hour Top or bottomSequencing to-dos in the optimal order to be completed (placing more urgent items at the top, for example) reduces the mental overhead of deciding which action to take next. Nirvana

Over the weekend we released a mobile app update (v3.7.4) with some significant performance issues. Many of you contacted us to report that the Nirvana app was acting sluggish, or would continually reload itself or sometimes outright freeze. Thank you everyone who let us know about the problem so quickly. We were able to isolate the bug and submit a fixed version to both GooglePlay and the AppStore within hours. Android version 3.7.5 is available now in GooglePlay. iOS version 3.7.5 is still “pending review” by the AppStore. Perhaps they have fewer reviewers? We are crossing our fing ..read more

Happy New Year! ? ? At long last we’ve brought Reminders to Nirvana’s mobile apps. Set a date/time to be reminded of a pending to-do, and you’ll receive a push-notification when that moment arrives. A Reminder Notification (shown on an iOS lock screen and Apple Watch) Yes yes, long time users know we’ve resisted implementing this for a long time as notifications are one of the biggest disrupters to flow and productivity. That said, having finally added the feature, we must admit they have their place, when used judiciously, to be gently nudged at a specific moment to pay attenti ..read more

Nerd alert: this post is technical. We’ve spent the better part of the past year reworking the underpinnings of our mobile and desktop apps. It’s been quite a slog but worth it. Nirvana was one of the earliest proponents of the Progressive Web App movement. In fact, the term hadn’t been coined yet when we dove in! And as is often the case with being on the bleeding edge of early adoption, we’d accumulated quite a bit of cruft that needed clearing out. But clear away we did and prevail we have. Our mobile apps are now built on Capacitor. And our desktop apps are leveraging the la ..read more

A quick maintenance release for the web app to fix an issue on Windows 10 where pressing the windows key was triggering the left nav to run up towards the Inbox. image from unsplash You should now be able to windows+tab around (as one often does) and still find Nirvana as you left it when you come back. Thanks to all who reported this. Shift+reload your browser (or logout/login) if you are still seeing this bug. Reflection and gratitude — what a year Photo by Aaron Burden on Unsplash Well that was certainly a year like no other. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on a challenging year, and express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. In an odd way the pandemic made our world feel smaller and more intimate — not just because we seemed to be in each other’s living rooms over Zoom, but perhaps the collective struggle of this pandemic helped many of us rediscover our commonalities, our vulnerabilities, our humility, our humanity. We were blessed to have been able to continue doing w ..read more
