It is late November, freezing cold and it had snowed last night as I make my way to the port of Stavanger to start my day cruise to Lysefjord. The wild and dramatic fjord cuts its way 40 km into the country between steep mountains. The Lysefjord is carved and formed by the glaciers during the Ice Age. In this wild and brutal mountain area, people have scratched onto the hills and mountains for thousands of years. In many places you can see traces of human activity and conquest of the wild nature.  Only a few people have gathered to join me on the tour this morning. We are warmly welcomed ..read more

Sleeping in a snow hotel might sound like a cold choice for many people but I can promise you this is a truly cozy and once in a lifetime experience. After spending one night at a snow hotel in Northern Norway people asked me if I would do it again. I guess in my case the answer is definitely yes. It is the combination of sleeping in such a special place, the ice art, the activities and the chance to see the amazing Northern Lights which makes a stay at a snow hotel so special and different each year. But how do they actually build a snow hotel? Of course, during summer, the whole hotel melt ..read more

Why we love winter in Norway!

Sometimes people ask how we Norwegians cope with the long and dark winters? When asked, there is often no immediate answer, but I guess we are simply fascinated by the ever-changing light and weather conditions.  Summer is the complete opposite of the dark winter months. In some parts of the country there is actually daylight 24/7! We therefore try to make up for the long dark winter months by staying outside as much as we can. Spending time in the mountains, excising or just meeting friends at an outdoor café. I guess we are trying to soak up as much sunlight as possible in order to sav ..read more

Bergen – secondlargest city in Norway and gateway to the Fjords. Situated in close proximity to the North Sea and surrounded by seven mountains the city has plent to offer for both tourists and locals.  We personally feel very blessed to call this city our home. The most appreciated quality of Bergen, is the immediate vicinity to nature.  The nature surrounds Bergen from all sides - everywhere you go you are close to both the mountains and the sea.  Rumors say that it rains a lot in Bergen. Yes – this is true, but even if you visit Bergen on a rainy day there is plenty to se ..read more
