The city’s newest fresco is nearly complete.
Casa Grande artist Mauriel “Mory” Morejon was spotted today finishing his newest mural he titled “By the River.” He started spraying his acrylic paint Monday.
The freehand mural is painted on a Global Water Resources tank just south of West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Santa Rosa Parkway. It features wild horses drinking water out of a river, with saguaros and jagged Arizona mountains in the background.

Maricopa police Saturday tased an armed man who barricaded himself inside his car and refused to identify himself.
Cops arrested 50-year-old Desert Passage resident Mark D. Hanson on charges of resisting arrest, weapons misconduct, failure to comply and failing to give a truthful name.
Police stopped Hanson in his 2001 Honda Accord at North John Wayne Parkway and West Maricopa Market Place for a suspended license plate, according to a probable cause statement.

A police chase ended when a motorcyclist crashed into a Maricopa Meadows roundabout this morning.
Arizona State Troopers, Maricopa police, fire and medical responders were spotted at the roundabout at West Honeycutt Avenue and Hogenes Boulevard around 9:15 a.m., just after class began for Maricopa Wells Middle School students across the street.
Arizona State Trooper Lugo told InMaricopa he saw the motorcyclist speeding southbound on North John Wayne Parkway and running the red light at Honeycutt Avenue.

Lowe’s Home Improvement at Southbridge Marketplace should get final approval to put shovels in the ground when Maricopa City Council meets tomorrow.
The council will consider and discuss the final plat for Lowe’s on 10.7 acres of the 16-acre commercial development expected to include a supermarket to be named and retail spaces, including a marijuana dispensary.
The council meets at 6 p.m. in its chambers at City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza.

This morning Casa Grande artist Mauriel “Mory” Morejon started work on the city’s newest mural — this time enveloping a Global Water Resources tank just south of West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Santa Rosa Parkway.
He’s the artist behind another mural at the Maricopa Museum and Visitor Center that debuted last July. He has painted more than 200 backyard murals in the city.

Maricopa police identified the pilot killed in a paramotor crash yesterday.
Maricopa police and fire crews responded to Murphy Road and La Brea Road just after 7 a.m. on reports that a small aircraft had gone down, according to public safety spokesperson Monica Williams
When first responders arrived, they discovered a 45-year-old Florence resident, Allen Kay Sackett, had been using a backpack-style paramotor device when he had an uncontrolled landing. His family has been notified.

A paramotor pilot died after an “uncontrolled landing” Sunday morning.
Maricopa police and fire crews responded to Murphy Road and La Brea Road just after 7 a.m. on reports that a small aircraft had gone down, according to public safety spokesperson Monica Williams
When first responders arrived, they discovered a person using a paramotor device had an uncontrolled landing.
“The solo pilot did not survive,” Williams said.
No other people were injured, and no property was damaged.
The incident remains under investigation by Maricopa Police Department.
