It’s great fun to be in Húsavík, the whale watching capital for Easter, with many concerts and events happening in town and more whale watching tours on the schedule. It will also be hard to miss the mountains of chocolate in the stores, with Easter eggs (páskaegg) taking on a main role!

Maria Glarou is a Doctoral Graduate Student at the University of Iceland, and her research is based in our hometown, Húsavík. For her PhD, she is studying the allometry of thermoregulatory adaptations of different-sized cetaceans in the northern Icelandic waters.

Our Schooner Opal set sail for a mission to clean the beach of Engey Island in Faxaflói Bay with nearly 40 participants, including students from the Technical College led by their teacher and our captain Sigríður “Sigga” Ólafsdóttir.

The cleanup was a great teamwork and a collaboration with many local organisations. This collective effort got worrying results, as the team removed approximately 1800 kg of trash, ranging from fishing equipment to harbor-oriented debris.
