Donna Custard, the president of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation and, as such, the head of JAG — or Jobs for America’s Graduates New Jersey — fully admits that the nonprofit is not well-known. “We’re not a household name, but we should be,” she said. That’s important, now more than ever before, for two big reasons: The program has helped more than 4,000 at-risk high school seniors from at-risk communities graduate and move into postsecondary education and career training that changes the course of their life and their extended family; The program is in line to get a massive fundi ..read more

According to the latest findings of the 2024 Medscape Physician Compensation Report, in 2023, physicians saw a steady increase in total compensation. Moreover, 51% felt personally underpaid relative to their job duties. These perceptions raised the question: Can physician pay both be generous and not enough to justify the amount of stress and sacrifice? As in previous years, this year’s report found gen ..read more

Less is more today in cancer care. … And Holy Name‘s Dr. George Miller has more to say about that: After years of relying on a sometimes heavy-hitting trifecta of radiation, drugs and surgeries, he notes that there’s a theme of oncologists looking for less (and even less) invasive approaches that can prove equally beneficial to patients. That trend is the backdrop for the latest cancer care innovation coming to Holy Name, where Miller serves as division chief of surgical oncology and medical director of oncologic surgery. Englewood Health executive Helene Wolk said she’s deeply passionate about screening and its critical role in either prevention or early diagnosis of cancer. Over the past few years, it’s hard to argue most shared in that feeling. “In the pandemic, a number of tests — annual mammography, colonoscopies, lung screenings — many people omitted them,” Wolk said. From the perspective of health care leaders, cancer screening was always important and safe, even throughout the pandemic. Yet not all patients felt comfortable enough (or available enough) to pursue those screenings during the many waves of ..read more
