MENDOCINO Co., 3/30/23 — California will issue automatically replacements of CalFresh/EBT benefits to residents in 120 different zip codes who were impacted by February’s winter storms, due to food losses from flooding and power outages. This means that those eligible will not need to apply for replacement benefits, but instead automatically receive them.

For the first time in its 92-year-old history, Boomer’s Saloon and Grill in Laytonville is now open for family-friendly dining, says owner Kay Kuykendall. Since its inception, Boomer’s has been for the 21 and over crowd. The establishment was approved in mid-March to welcome guests of all ages to dine in its expansive dining room. “This is a huge change for the business,” Kuykendall said in an email.

MENDOCINO Co, CA, 3/29/23 — After a consultant’s presentation, board discussion, and an extended metaphor about pancakes, the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to lend support to several water resiliency projects by helping communities around Mendocino County seek grant funding.

POTTER VALLEY, CA, 3/29/23 — Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E)’s decision to leave the spillway gates open at Scott Dam this spring and in the future due to increased risk of seismic activity in the area may put the utility out of compliance with its license to operate the Potter Valley Project, according to a letter from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to PG&E’s president on Tuesday. WILLITS, 3/29/23 — The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man missing from Brooktrails near Willits since the morning of Monday, March 27, when he was last seen. Riley Hsieh is described as a 24 year old Asian American adult, approximately 5 feet and 10 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, who was last seen wearing a grey robe, blue pants, and carrying a light green or blue bag in the Brooktrails area. WILLITS, CA, 3/28/23 — Upwards of 75 Mendocino County residents headed to the Willits Community Center on Thursday to offer their thoughts on the Great Redwood Trail, an ambitious 316-mile connector from San Francisco to Humboldt Bay, the Willits portion of which is nearing its construction phase.
