Stanford’s Haley Jones has declared for the 2023 WNBA Draft.
The 2021 Final Four Most Outstanding Player for the national championship-winning Cardinal and two-time All-American was one of 76 players that declared, which the league announced in a release on Tuesday afternoon. Another Stanford player, Ashten Prechtel, also declared.
Jones, 21, grew up in Santa Cruz and went to high school at San Jose’s Archbishop Mitty, where she was a three-time Bay Area News Group player of the year.
Stanford’s season ended in the second round of this year’s NCAA Tournament in a shocking 54-49 loss to Ole Mis ..read more

Creek-embracing designs will work for San Anselmo
I am writing in regard to San Anselmo’s downtown plaza bridge (“Marin County delays demolition of San Anselmo bridge,” March 21), which is actually more of an outdated foundation than a bridge.
The removal of buildings and condemnation of the bridge over San Anselmo Creek is a huge design opportunity to restore the creek closer to its natural form. Adding a couple well-designed footbridges, as well as flood-proof picnic tables along the creek on both sides makes sense.
This would be similar to creek-embracing designs in places I’ve visited, lik ..read more

Up until Saturday, Jonathan Majors’s Hollywood career was “red hot,” with starring roles in “Creed III,” Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the forthcoming “Magazine Dreams.”
Then came his arrest in New York City Saturday morning, stemming from an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. On Sunday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office filed assault and harassment charges against the 33-year-old Yale-trained actor. Even though Majors’ attorney told the media at his arraignment that the actor is “completely innocent,” and insisted they have video evidence and eyewitness stateme ..read more

It’s easy to be greedy with citrus when summer fruits are a mere warm weather promise. Early spring is high season for lemons, and these bars will bring a warming ray of sunshine to your plate.
The key to a good lemon bar, in my book, is that the filling must be intensely lemony. It should pack a wallop of puckery tartness balanced by just enough sweetness without being cloying. For this task, rely on the Eureka lemon, the ubiquitous lemon readily found in our markets. They have the requisite tartness for these bars, which their sunny cousin, the Meyer lemon, lacks. No knocks to Meyers — they ..read more

Spring has already sprung, making it that time of the year when the planets align and the Earth renews itself. For those who doubt the veracity of that claim, I must point out that Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and the moon all did just align on March 28. But we aren’t really talking science here.
The spring equinox brings with it a variety of religious feast days. The two most prominent, Easter and Passover, are linked in a multitude of ways. Due to the complexities of religious calculations, they may not exactly align, but they often do sort of overlap, as they do this year. In 2023 ..read more

You don’t hurriedly approach an Apichatpong Weerasethakul film, or watch one thinking you’ll catch up on text messages and voicemails.
To truly appreciate what’s unfolding, you need to slow down and surrender to the sensory, dream-like experience that the unique, award-winning filmmaker forms with such care. Tune out the mad dash of everydayness and commit yourself to Weerasethakul’s static scenes and long, telling takes in which the sights and sounds of nature and even city life sometimes provide more context than the dialogue.
So what a treat it is for Bay Area movie lovers that a curated sa ..read more

SAN JOSE — Defenseman Henry Thrun, who signed an entry-level contract with the Sharks over the weekend, will make his NHL debut on Thursday, coach David Quinn said.
Thrun arrived in San Jose on Monday, two days after he signed a two-year deal with the Sharks that expires after the 2023-24 season. Thrun, though, arrived too late to be able to practice with the Sharks, and was ruled out for tonight’s game at SAP Center against the Winnipeg Jets.
Thrun, 22, skated with the Sharks on Tuesday morning and is slated to play Thursday when the Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights.
