Another day, another housesit … this one just around the corner from my parents’ house. The leaves are slowly changing to red, gold, and orange, and it’s finally getting cooler. Best of all … we’re doing some serious travel planning around here — stay tuned! Our favorite finds from around the web: Travel and Fear: The World Is Not Safe, But You Should Travel It Anyway. As we’re beginning to plan more international travel — and as things get crazier and crazier here in the United States — travel safety is more and more on my mind. Reading Roundup: September 2017

September was a pretty good month of reading for me — including making my way through several books that have been on my reading list for a long time. This summer was so full, I didn’t get a lot of reading done — and now that fall is here, and it’s getting cold and dark earlier, I’m ready to attack my stack of books! The Confusion of Languages by Siobhan Fallon I read The Confusion of Languages after finding it on Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Summer Reading Guide (category: Intense Novels). I absolutely loved it! I love page-turning, twisty, suspenseful novels — but these days, a lot of the ..read more

The end of summer means long shadows and deserted beaches at Pawtuckaway State Park. Our favorite finds from around the web: 101 small ways you can improve your city. I’m loving this list after reading This Is Where You Belong: Finding Home Wherever You Are.  (As travel-crazy as I am, I never want to forget to also invest in my home, wherever that might be at the moment!) The Best Place to Camp in Each of the 50 States. This article pretty much makes me want to pack up and go, right now. (Funnily enough, we just wrapped up a 10-day housesit on Pawtuckaway Lake … see above … which T ..read more

We’re going back in time to share our 2017 car camping adventure through the Southwest! But you guys should know by now that we rarely stick to the plan — and this time, it was for an unexpected and welcome detour. At the time my brother, who lives in San Antonio ..read more

This week we’re housesitting on a beautiful lake in central New Hampshire! The leaves are juuuuust starting to turn colors and the summer crowds have left, leaving us almost alone with the loons Our favorite finds from around the web: How to make your life adventure ready. I know. It has been forever since we posted. Like … eight months, to be exact. When we last left you, we were jaunting merrily off on a trek that was planned to take us, over the course of ten months, from New Hampshire to Alaska and back.  We had amazing new gear and a crazy plan to leave our camper behind. Well, as you may have guessed by now — we didn’t quite make it. It’s hard to say exactly where our plan went off course. We had a wonderful trip south to Louisiana — visiting friends, and checking off a national park along the way. We camped on the beach in Texas … An ..read more

So with the new camping platform put together,  and all our updated storage worked out to keep us organized as we go full-time in the truck this year, we were eager to hit the road. But despite all the improvements, we weren’t quite done. One of the reasons we were so eager to build a new platform and get more organized was that we got tired of constantly moving our cooler and bins of food gear in and out of the truck — then stashing it in the front seat every night to keep it away from animals. Laziness is the mother of invention! Having spent almost six months mulling it ..read more

In my last post, I showed you guys the new camping/storage platform that I build for our travels this year. As we were driving around last year, we realized we still had a lot of loose items rolling around that drove us nuts, and a lot of unnecessary clutter we didn’t want to spend another year dealing with.  So today, I’m going to show you a few of the things I built, bought, or was given (thanks, Moms!) that we are using to stay neat, orderly, functional, and organized. Hopefully, you’ll find a few things you like that will work for you as well! 1) Shelves For both of our previous ..read more
