Over the past few months many of you have kindly taken the time to send in suggestions for new features and changes. Two topics that have come up a few times, is to have the ability to find people people to go on local bike rides (not necessarily touring) with and to setup regular/recurring tours & cycle rides. Two great ideas that I think will benefit many people. So, today I have made a few changes. A new category called 'Local Bike Ride' has been created. This is great for people who don't always get chance to go off touring on a regular basis, but are still looking for people ..read more

If you are living in the Northern hemisphere right now, then the nights are closing in, the mornings are dark and your bed is making you want to hide under the covers. Well, it is for me anyway! If you read my last blog post, then you will know it doesn't always stop me riding, but it can be a struggle to get motivated sometimes. For me, it is the time of year when I start to think about, what next for my cycling? Did I go where I wanted to during the warmer months? Should have gone for a ride instead of popping to the pub beer garden!? We cannot beat ourselves up about missed opportunities ..read more

So here it is!  The first blog entry for my new site www.cycletouring.org  I have been meaning to start writing this blog for some time now.  With all the work that has gone into starting this site, I guess the time has run away. Or maybe am I scared of your comments!?    What is there to tell about me?  Late 30’s (ish!) IT professional (my day job) who loves cycling and his family.  Having recently moved to Jersey (Channel Islands) for my work, I was really made to think about my cycling after I went from having all of the UK available to me, to an island ju ..read more

I hope you, your families and friends are well and you are finding time to get out on your bicycles, whether it be a ride around the block, a micro-adventure, or maybe further afield.  It is fair to 2020 was a different kind of year, but we will all get through this. Well, it has been far too long since Cycling Touring has been in communication!  Sorry about that.  I certainly won’t bore you all with the why, or blame everything on the global crisis gripping our lives – I’m trying not to mention the ‘C’ word that is dominating our lives!  There have been many reasons ..read more

Cycle Touring Festival 2017

On the late May bank holiday for the past three years, a group of around 200 to 300 people get together to talk about bicycles, listen to engaging stories of amazing cycle touring journeys, learn, eat, sleep, drink a few beers, go cycling and have a bloody good time in the company of like minded people.  It is called the Cycle Touring Festival and I had the pleasure of going this year.  This is what I found.     It was the day before the festival and time had been moving way too fast and I was faced with getting my bicycle and kit ready whilst trying to work from home! I h ..read more

Off to have a Cycle Touring Adventure in Dartmoor

I think of myself as rather fortunate to live in the South West of England. Perfect for cycle touring with being nicely placed in between two awesome National Parks; Dartmoor and Exmoor. With the bits in between filled with endless country roads and superb views from all directions. I have the luxury of heading in any direction for a cracking local ride, and if I want to go further, I hop on the train. And on this occasion, my target was Dartmoor for a couple of days chilled out riding.     Hopping out of bed early, I had that feeling of not being entirely prepared for this ..read more

cycletouring.org is excited to announce a great new service: Local Bicycle Touring Leaders.  We are building a network of cyclists, ready to meet up and help other cyclists visiting their local area as part of a cycle tour. It is about meeting up, going cycling and showing people your local area. The local leader has the opportunity to help, meet new people, have fun, and become part of a bicycle tour. And the visiting cyclist get their own local guide! It is simple to use. People register their details and select a location nearby, which in turn creates a pin on a map. People ..read more
