TIL that you CAN make your own iced tea at home.

So for context (and I know this isn't ECAH), I love Starbucks iced teas. My favorite is the Iced Passion Tango Tea. It's only a few bucks which is within my budget and I like the flavor since there is no need for added sugars or syrups. But then randomly I was thinking what if I could make this at home. I stopped by after my night class to the grocery store and picked up hibiscus tea bags (20 bags for $2), brewed some water in my kettle, placed a couple tea bags in a heat resistant pitcher with some ice, then drink once chilled. I added some muddled fruit to a serving with a bar kit that was ..read more

How can I realistically gain weight?

For some context I (f16) have been trying to put on weight for what seems like forever but have never managed to maintain any. Unfortunately I still live with my hawk parents who won't let me drink ensures despite the fact I am underweight and my doctor has told them I need calories. Anyways, whenever I see youtube videos on how to gain weight they are all so unrealistic. I'm talking 4 to 5 homecooked, made-from-scratch, ingredient based meals. Along with 2 hours at the gym a day. While that is my goal, it is just not realistic for me right now. I'm a busy student, who although studies from h ..read more

Seeking Breakfast Snack Suggestions & Budget-Friendly Sources for Nonprofit Fundraiser Event!

Hey there foodies! I'm organizing a nonprofit fundraiser event at a hotel for around 200 people. Unfortunately we cannot afford to pay for the breakfast options they provide, but being a nonprofit, the hotel has given us the green light to serve breakfast-type snacks instead for free. I'm reaching out to this awesome community to gather some suggestions for breakfast snack options that would be perfect for our event. Think along the lines of granola bars, pastries, and anything else that would be easy to grab and go. Additionally, since we're catering for a large group and working on a nonpro ..read more

Opinions on chicken gizzards?

Been making some gizzards and rice mix a bit and an interested why it doesn’t get more attention. Gizzards from I read are a lot of protein and very low cost per pound. I know it’s a bit taboo to most Americans, but does anyone else know more about why most people don’t consider this meat when they want healthy, cheap meals? submitted by /u/Krabsyen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Question about TVP
Reddit - Eating healthy on a cheap budget

So I'm trying out dif't forms of protein (groceries prices, am I right?) One of the things I'd like to try is to add tvp to my ground turkey when I make tacos (I just do the usual taco season + water after browning the ground meat). Do I rehydrate the TVP first? If I rehydrate, should I sear the tvp along w/ the ground turkey or do I just add it rehydrated at the same time as the water and taco seasoning I usually use? submitted by /u/uhdoy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
