By: Susan Swagler Homegrown and chef-driven. Authentic yet inventive. Intuitive and intentional. Really good and simply real. Rusty’s Bar-B-Q in Leeds is all that, and owner Rusty Tucker will still surprise you. About 20 minutes from Birmingham and just off I-20 (where he has some official tourist-boosting signage), Rusty’s is ideally located – just up the hill from a huge Bass Pro Shops, a fairly new Buc-ee’s and the world-renowned Barber Motorsports Park. The restaurant, on the main road into and through Leeds, is in a small building that was many things before Rusty and his wife, Beth, ope ..read more

CALM SPRING WEATHER: We project a high in the 80-84 degree range across Alabama today with a party sunny sky. An isolated shower can’t be ruled out this afternoon, but the chance of any one spot seeing rain is only 5-10 percent, and not really worth mentioning in the forecast. This is basically the story through the weekend as an upper ridge builds across the Deep South. Partly sunny, warm das, fair nights, and highs in the low to mid 80s. Only a very small risk of a shower daily; the big storms remain well to the west of Alabama. NEXT WEEK: A weak front will bring some risk of showers to the ..read more

PLEASANT SPRING AFTERNOON: We have a mix of sun and clouds across Alabama this afternoon; we note one small lone shower over Sumter County at mid-afternoon, otherwise nothing on radar despite a surface front over the central counties. Tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 50s. TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The front will drift north tomorrow and basically dissipate. Again, a few isolated showers can’t be ruled out, but most communities will stay dry with a high in the low to mid 80s.
