The largest crane on the Eastern Seaboard was being transported to Baltimore so crews on Friday can begin removing the wreckage of a collapsed highway bridge that has halted a search for four workers still missing days after the disaster and blocked the city’s vital port from operating.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said the crane, which was arriving by barge and can lift up to 1,000 tons, will be one of at least two used to clear the channel of the twisted metal and concrete remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, and the cargo ship that hit it this week.

Black holes — how do they work? New images of the magnetic field of the black hole at the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way, may help us understand them a little better.
The new view of the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* that was provided by the Event Horizon Telescope suggests that all black holes have a similar structure, according to astronomers at Harvard and the Smithsonian Institute who shared the imagery on Wednesday.
The imagery shows a fiery swirl around Sagittarius A*, and a similar one around another supermassive black hole, M87*, seen through polarized light, according to ..read more

Three young Southern California women are looking to inspire other women to consider a career in the skies as they share their experience in being pilots.
Emma Baker, Katie Peters and Giselle Gomez all pilot out of the Van Nuys Airport. They’re hoping that by sharing their background and start in aviation, other women interested in the male-dominated field will join, too.
They describe the liberty of flying as powerful and freeing, and hope more women will get that feeling in becoming pilots, themselves.
“Once you lift off the ground, it’s just you and the plane,” said Baker, who’s a flight in ..read more

But shortly after the entire plan was seated, a flight attendant came to her seat and asked her to speak in private, escorting Archbold off the plane.
