The city of Long Beach has opened two free, family-friendly aquatic playgrounds for the summer, it announced earlier this week. Inflatable water parks are now available for use at Alamitos Beach and Bayshore Beach daily through Sept. 4. The play structures boast monkey bars, bouncers and springboards so visitors can have some fun in the sun. Aside from the fun, the city warns that “aquatic-based recreation is a naturally dangerous activity.” It warns the public that the city is not responsible or liable for injuries caused while using the playgrounds. The Israeli military on Sunday announced a “tactical pause” in its offensive in the southern Gaza Strip to allow the deliveries of increased quantities of humanitarian aid. The army said the pause would begin in the Rafah area at 8 a.m. (0500 GMT, 1 a.m. eastern) and remain in effect until 7 p.m. (1600 GMT, noon eastern). It said the pauses would take place every day until further notice. 500-acre fire burns in Hesperia: Cal Fire

Firefighters responded to a wind-driven brush fire that burned at least 500 acres in Hesperia on Saturday. The fire was reported around 6:50 p.m. off Highway 173, near Silverwood Lake, according to Cal Fire. As a result of the blaze, an evacuation warning was issued for Lake Arrowhead Equestrian Estates. Crews are battling the fire as winds of 15 to 20 mph pose a challenge for firefighters. It is unclear what caused the blaze. Missing cat reunites with owners in Thousand Palms

A cat and his owners were reunited Saturday at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus after the animal had been missing since April. Kim Salls and her wife Jill MacDonald, who live in St. Louis, Missouri, were visiting a home they own in Rancho Mirage with their two cats, two English bulldogs and a Brussels griffon when one of their cats, 3-year-old Dale Dragon, went missing on April 10, according to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. Starting on June 10, all LA County pools will be open six days a week with access to all aquatic facilities, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation announced this week.
