LOS ANGELES  — The red, blue and orange of Armenia’s flag flew on the streets of Los Angeles on Wednesday as marchers remembered the deaths of 1.5 million Armenians in what is regarded as the first genocide of the 20th century. A crowd rallied in LA’s Little Armenia district before proceeding down Hollywood Boulevard. The new education center at the Port Administration Building in Civic Center Plaza will be named after former Rep. Alan Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, as the City Council approved the name change on Tuesday, April 23. The 10,000-square-foot space will be named the Congressman Alan Lowenthal Global Trade and Education Center, which Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero announced during the annual State of the Port address in January. Felony charges have been filed against a Los Angeles County assistant district attorney, who is accused of repeated and unauthorized use of data from confidential, statutorily protected peace officer files, the California Attorney General’s Office announced Wednesday. Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler are demanding the federal Department of Justice intervene to address a litany of sexual abuse allegations and other wrongdoing in Los Angeles County’s juvenile camps.
