How to market the third book in a series

I’m publishing the third and final book in my YA sci-fi series in April. I’m enrolled in KU for the first two books and plan to for the third. I have had very modest sales with the first two books, a few hundred total and many more freebies. My question is when I release the third book, should I do a email promotions for the first novel, making it free? Or should I wait to see if the release of the third book gives the series any traction? submitted by /u/sactown11 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm very familiar with Canva and would love to use it to format my own poetry book. I know they have an eBook layout but would the pixels / format be different for a print version? How do I go about choosing a size and how to use that size? submitted by /u/rosecoloredcamera [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Completely naive about this - thinking of selling journals/notebooks on Amazon

Hey all I work in healthcare and have a goal of going back to school to become a nurse. However it’s extremely expensive (around 40k) and I simply can not afford to work part time, take out a huge loan, and concentrate on school at the same time. That being said, I was scrolling through instagram and saw a reel about some lady saying she sells print on demand books in Amazon, buys templates and kind of edits them a little and posts them and makes money. Of course it can’t be so simple right? But I figure if I can maybe work at this for a while and get some kind of passive income to help me fe ..read more

I'm releasing my third novel soon - We Met In The Forums - and was hoping for some critique on the first draft of my blurb. It's a horror with aspects of internet mystery, found footage-style forum extracts and body horror. Thank you in advance! ** An isolated coastal city. A deadly outbreak. In the darkest corners of an anonymous internet forum, best friends Josh and Leo have built a relationship based on curiosity, conspiracy and a shared love for the macabre. When their friendship transitions from cyberspace to the real world, they find themselves entangled in a mysterious fungal outbreak ..read more

Update: KDP vs. Mixam for Color Photo Books

I recently started creating some photo booklets and tried KDP and Mixam. The Mixam sample issues just came back. I had low hopes after hearing some people dislike the end result of Mixam, but based on my comparison of KPD's color printing and Mixam's, Mixam's quality blew away KDP's. While KDP's were acceptable after some trial-and-error, Mixam's booklet looked professional and as I see the images on the screen. But there's a catch, you have to choose the format Mixam leads you into, I think it's 5.5 x 8.5, for the price that's reasonable, and it is reasonable. KDP offers lots of dimensions ..read more

Does copyrighting my book automatically copyright my characters?

Hi, I'm writing a children's book series about 3 mice who all have their own name. Once I pay for copyright of the books, are the 3 main characters instantly copyrighted too or do I need to get a separate copyright to make sure no one uses the characters? submitted by /u/Least_Psychology_564 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have one series of clean romance wide and am struggling to get sales. I’m going to keep working at marketing because it’s only been wide about 6 months. But in May I’ll be releasing book one of a new series and I’m really tempted to start it off in KU for the first three months. Does anyone else do this? submitted by /u/StellaBella6 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hosting Virtual Launch Party

Hey ya'll! So I'm on the process of organizing a virtual launch party for my self-published book's release, and if I thought I didn't know what I was doimg before... well, let's just say that writing the book was apparently the easy part haha. Some out there know the feeling, I'm sure. Anyway, I have no idea what I'm doing. What platform do I even use? Zoom? I have an idea of the steps -- select a platform, get the word out, offer incentives, etc. but I've never hosting anything virtual before, and I'm out of my element. What do I do?? haha In all seriousness, my main objectives right now are ..read more

I am trying to upload my epub file to IngramSpark, and I've been using Calibre to help since it seemed very user friendly for someone who knows nothing about coding. Here are the errors I'm getting right now. Does anyone know how to fix these? The property "remote-resources" should be declared in the OPF file. Error while parsing file: element "hr" not allowed here; expected the element end-tag, text, element "a", "abbr", "area", "audio", "b", "bdi", "bd... submitted by /u/phoenixpajamas [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
