Tom Ramsay’s ‘Spill the Watts’ podcast with 2023 Men’s Elite winner Giles Drake is a corker for the aficionado. Enjoy 1 hr 20 mins of geeking out to what makes someone come back repeatedly after failure to clinch victory.

Giles is the WINNER of the Three Peaks Cyclocross race in 2023 - arguably the most brutal race on skinny tyres in Yorkshire.Giles had been close to winning this race for the 4 years previous to this, and his determination and relentless personality got him to the top step eventually.Winning this race takes an unbelieva ..read more

Don’t get all worked up. There are no comedy crashes. It’s not that sort of fail video.
An interesting vlog though on how you can underestimate the effort, prep and pain tolerance needed to get through this beautiful race
Apols, I don’t know the name of this rider. If anyone does, please let me know ..read more

Unsurprisingly, the win of Giles Drake features heavily in the Lakeland cycle shop’s 2023 report heavily. And what a tale. Coming after a long drought for Wheelbase in the 3 Peaks (they used to have Rob Jebb in their ranks, and six of his 13 victories were in Wheelbase colours), it felt like a certain old order was restored (certainly for me, as a Wheelbase rider, too !!)
Their report and video of the 2023 race is here >>

[Stolen from Dean’s Facebook post, worth keeping here where we can find it!]
“On and off for 50 years I have been a visitor to the Yorkshire Dales on the last Sunday in September for the 3 Peaks Cyclo-cross.
I remember being bundled into the car at 3am with my sister in the early 70’s for mum and dad to make the long drive from Leicestershire to Horton-in-Ribblesdale to watch dad master the course and place highly, 3rd being his best ride. In 1975. As a youngster it was the only opportunity to sample the delights of Kendal Mint Cake. I used to watch in awe, Barry Davies, John Atkins, Eric Ston ..read more

After a few years of no or very little coverage, Cycling Weekly have an article online now. Their photographer, Andy Jones, who must have the world record for standing in the same spot on Horton Scar Lane every year on the last Sunday in September, was there getting his usual ace bunch of photos.
In 2023, the race is still going strong: the most recent edition took place on Sunday and the course was as tough as ever. The winners – Giles Drake (Wheelbase Cabtech Castelli) and Bryony Halcrow (Hope Factory Racing) – finished in three hours, six minutes and 12 seconds and three hours, 49 minutes ..read more

Sandy “didn’t ride the 3 Peaks this year, so came to watch and took some pictures instead. Looked a bit grim for the riders on Pen-y-ghent.“
It did indeed look grim…!

Pretty much made the most of not being able to race this time around with a lovely day out enjoying the beautiful clear views across the Dales. Well… about 30 metres of views anyway.
