I don’t want to get a couch, chairs, high dining table or box spring for bed but also don’t want my place to look tacky and cheap. I’d like a zen feel like dining on the floor at traditional Japanese homes. What decor, rugs, small low profile dining table, and floor mattress should I be getting? submitted by /u/ThrowAwayxj900 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I recently bought some nice decorative spoons in Prague and I want to stick them on a wall, crossed, kinda like two crossed swords. Do you have any recommendations for what king of item would be able to hold them crossed against the wall, as in the image? I've tried searching for "x-shaped wall holder", "sword wall holder", etc. but nothing really fits what I'm looking for, so I'd appreciate any advice. https://preview.redd.it/39tgiulzmysc1.jpg?width=1512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=874879a7dc7d5fc1ba4e2d0fab6d75a5a7f4486a submitted by /u/thefrogoffrogs223 [visit reddit] [comme ..read more

Hi folks I have 2 weeks before moving into a new lease in NYC. I have moved with no furniture, so am in a positive to start from scratch in terms of furnishing. I am hoping there are some interior design gurus here who can help me come up with some creative ways to maximise the use of my living room, while preserving aesthetics. See floor plan below - all dimensions in feet and inches. The living room is the space to the far right (12' x 9') Some must haves for the space I am trying to make work: Combination cooking bench + dining table setup (as the kitchen has limited surface area) - I ..read more

Don't have any furniture except for these dark blue couches, the mini table with the cherry blossom light tree on top and bedroom set (will make a future post on that later). I really want to use light/(maybe dark if needed to tie in the other colors) blues, green, and gray colors throughout the apartment. Possibly light pinks/lavender as well may be ok. We are a couple looking for our first apartment together, 30 years old 98 Square Meters Apartment, 12 Square Meters Balcony I thought about making the bedroom that is next to the kitchen smaller to transform it into an office and the entire apartment into a 3.5 bedroom apartment for a bigger kitchen and living room My biggest concern is the long hallway and the "railroad" vibe of apartment but I don't know much about interior design so I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on the sizes of the rooms, layout, and if the narrow long design is a bad idea or not ! thank you !!! https://prev ..read more

Choosing between 2 mirrored apartments

Hi all, first time posting here. I'm about to buy an apartment on the 9th floor out of 11. There are 2 identical mirrored apartments, as you can see in the below floor plan. One in red (left side) and another in blue (right side). I'm planning to get the one in red as I'm thinking the balcony will get a bit more light than the one in blue, which is partially shaded by the other adjacent balconies. Compass visible on the top of the floor plan. Is there anything to consider when making this decision? For example, the apartment on the left starts with the living room on the left and the bedr ..read more

I am moving to a different state for 5 months and I need help deciding what kind of bed to get. I won’t be able to keep whatever bed situation I end up buying, so I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it. I also don’t want to be uncomfortable. Bed Frame & Real Mattress: Pros- Comfortable Normal setup Easy to find quality options Cons- Expensive Must be thrown away or donated once I leave Overview- It’s a solid, easy, normal choice. But, it feels like an expensive waste of money since I have to get rid of it after 5 months. Air Mattress: Pros- Cheaper Can be taken back home and used afte ..read more

Advice to Newbie

Hello! I'm new to designing my space and would love some advice. I'm getting married and would love to make our living space more personal. We're moving into a basement suite. Not the best appearance-wise, but for our first place, we're grateful. I have never been a big decor person, so I'd love to get some advice on how to get started. How do I find my style without breaking our bank or become too impractical? I don't just wanna go on social media and spend a ton to copy what someone else has. submitted by /u/Stand_Which [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! My name is Juliana Kaplan and I'm a reporter at BI, where I cover how the economy impacts workers and vice versa. I've reported a lot on the economic and social conundrums facing millennials, including parents, and now I'm hoping to write about how millennials are navigating a tricky housing situation. If you're living alone, I'd love to talk to you about how you accomplished that, what it's been like, and what you wish people understood about what millennials are dealing with. You can feel free to contact me here, or shoot me an email at [jkaplan@businessinsider.com](mailto:jkaplan@bu ..read more
