Former President Donald Trump has made it official: He’s backing U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis for re-election to Florida’s 12th Congressional District. The former President and current presumptive GOP nominee for the third time had already tacitly offered his support, appearing with Bilirakis at a high-dollar fundraiser. If that wasn’t enough to get the point across, he’s now made it crystal clear. “Congressman Gus Bilirakis is a very effective lawmaker for the people of Florida’s 12th Congressional District! Our America First Movement needs Leaders like Gus, who Fight to Secure the Border, Stop Il ..read more

Federal Judges uphold Florida map, but raise questions on whether race motivated Gov. DeSantis
Florida Politics
by Jacob Ogles

A federal court has ruled that the Legislature didn’t act with race as a motivating factor in approving Florida’s congressional map. The same can’t be said for Gov. Ron DeSantis, a ruling states. Regardless, the court found that the map doesn’t violate the U.S. Constitution. While a state challenge to the map remains ongoing, it’s unclear if the federal ruling will be appealed. “It is not enough for the plaintiffs to show that the Governor was motivated in part by racial animus, which we will assume without deciding for purposes of our decision,” the ruling reads. “Rather, they also must prove ..read more

Good Thursday morning. Breaking overnight — “Federal court upholds Ron DeSantis-backed congressional map” via Gary Fineout of POLITICO — A panel of federal judges upheld Florida’s congressional map, turning away a challenge that alleged it was discriminatory against Black voters after the district held by former Rep. Al Lawson, a Black Democrat, was dismantled. The decision is a substantial victory for Republicans and Gov. DeSantis, who muscled the map through Florida’s GOP-controlled Legislature. The three-judge panel unanimously ruled that those who challenged the map did not prove that Repu ..read more

Ron DeSantis says his children will have ‘flip phones’
Florida Politics
by A.G. Gancarski

Florida’s Governor is going old-school with future technology purchases for his three children. Rather than buy them iPhones or even Blackberries, Madison, Mason, and Mamie will get treated to telephony that constitutes a blast from the past. “Our kids are too young to have any phones. We’ve decided that when they do get a phone, (it’s) probably not going to be a smartphone. It’s going to be one of those old flip phones that we used to have where they can make a call if they need anything from us. But we don’t have to worry about all the hundreds of different apps,” said Ro ..read more

Ron DeSantis tops poll of preferred Donald Trump running mates
Florida Politics
by A.G. Gancarski

People in Donald Trump’s inner circle may have little good to say about Ron DeSantis. But new polling suggests that despite the acrimony, Republican voters would like to see the Florida Governor as the former President’s understudy in the Oval Office. A YouGov survey conducted from March 24-26 found 64% of Republican-leaning independents and Republicans would approve of the Governor taking that spot, the highest positive number in a field of candidates including Ben Carson, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Carson, at 55%, is the second choice. De ..read more
