Since we first arrived on the Sunshine Coast in 2006, we have had the amazing privilege to help people and horses from all different walks of life. For the past 12 years, we have offered lessons, clinics and fun horse days that have helped hundreds of people create deeper and more authentic relationships with their horses. We have had the opportunity to give many young horses their first ride and we have helped many people overcome the adversity and challenges that they have faced with their horses. We feel truly blessed to have had this opportunity and we appreciate the trust that you as the ..read more

Learning to be fully present when you are with your horse can build a great relationship between you and your horse. Helping you solve difficult horse behaviour and improving your groundwork and riding.   One of the most common human behaviours, that cause horses to shut down and disconnect, is bad feel and timing. For horses, it’s all about how it feels when you convey meaning through your body language and intent. Bad feel and timing usually comes from spending too much time in your head. You might be thinking about what you ate for dinner last night or you might be worried about w ..read more

Working with obstacles is one of the greatest ways to have fun, build your communication and develop good leadership skills with your horse. Obstacles are a great tool for developing your horse’s confidence and problem solving skills. To put it simply, obstacles teach your horse to be calmer, braver and smarter. The easiest way to be creative with obstacles is to think about all of the different obstacles and direction available. Using the 6 basic directions When you work with obstacles you have access to the 6 basic directions, forwards, backwards, left, right, up and down. Here are some way ..read more

I have finally managed to sort through all the emails I received about the women’s riding group, which I’m starting on Mondays.  Everyone who has emailed me should have received an answer by now. If you haven’t please contact me again. I’m really sorry if I have missed someone. I’m running two groups on a fortnightly basis, which allows more people to join. Unfortunately, not everyone will be having the chance to join at this point in time, since both groups are fully booked.  But, if you are interested in joining the group, you have the opportunity to join one of my waiting lists. I’m putting my feelers out for women who might be interested in joining a women’s riding group at my place. A long time ago I, Linda, ran a women’s riding group and it was lots of fun. The aim of the group is to get together to share our horsey experiences and have fun. We would do some groundwork exercise, a little bit of instruction/guidance and quadrille riding.    Incase you do not know what quadrille is, this is the definition given on wikipedia:  “Quadrille is a choreographed dressage ride, commonly performed to music, which is often compared to an equestria ..read more

This is the second part of the article Ben wrote on ‘Finding out what makes your horse tick‘… Knowing your horse’s hierarchy of needs Finding out what makes your horse tick, is also about continually developing your understanding of your horse’s unique hierarchy of needs.
