Fine and dry so far this week after a stormy weekend.  Sadly the tail end of Storm Ashley claimed Perth's inaugural October fixture where we had seven declared runners.  Frustrating as we are keen to get going and we didn't learn much at Hexham where Artic Row and Half Track parted company with their riders ..read more

Bright and cold here, a productive morning on the gallops and the horses seem well.  An exciting weekend for the Team as we kick off the new season with four runners at Hexham tomorrow, they had the best part of an inch of rain earlier in the week and I am hoping it will be ..read more

Dull and drizzly today; no runners this weekend, having paused to vaccinate in the second week of September we don't feel the horses are quite ready.  We did have Bel Amigo declared for Kelso this afternoon in the hope of some rain to ease the ground but withdrew when that failed to materialise.  One or ..read more

Hello!  It's been a while... glorious autumn weather; it's been a grand spell for farming and for training horses and I'm pleased to say that by and large things have been going well, we've been very focussed on preparing our team of about 50 horses for the season ahead.  I would describe most of the ..read more

Lovely day and a fine forecast for the week, at last summer has arrived, haylage is made, hay is making and 4o horses had their first quiet canter yesterday.  All good at the end of what feels like a very productive week at the sales with two horses bought at Goffs on Monday and one ..read more

A fine day, the hay is wrapped and stacked and we have had an excellent forst week bringing the horses back in to work.  Delighted with Everyday Champagne at Perth on Sunday, a bold front running effort until reeled in late on, a lovely horse to train and race – a short break in the field now for him.  No runners for a while now other than Sanosuke with Jesika on board in the CharityRace at Carlisle’s all girl evening meeting on Monday 5th August (you can donate here!) – otherwise back in September.  We have a lovely team of horses for next winter but could always squeeze in ano ..read more

Cool and overcast today, chance of some drizzle but the first batch of hay made yesterday and forecast not bad at all so hopefully the remainder will be made in the next few days.  Busy here now with 46 horses back in, mostly on the walker being generally sorted out before we start riding them again on Monday, feels great having the yard busy again and plenty of new faces for next season.  We have one horse race fit and it is Everyday Champagne who runs in the feature chase at Perth tomorrow afternoon, the race is at 3.45 and I’d expect the ground to end up on the fast side of good ..read more

Dull but mild here in Deauville where we have been attending the Arqana Summer Sale; one runner in our absence, Warriors Story in the 3.47 at Perth tomorrow where the ground should be good summer ground.  He ran well last time until the latter stages so the drop back in trip, we’ve tweaked a few other things as well in the hope he can show his proper form again, Bruce rides and 11 run. Here he is stretching out at Kinneston last week https://www.kinneston.com/wp-content/uploads/WhatsApp-Video-2024-06-28-at-10.12.09_4c9ad8e0.mp4 ..read more

No runners so a summer update…

Damp and chilly this morning, summer seems but a distant memory, hopefully will return next week.  A tremendous run from Everyday Champagne last Sunday, only just denied after a bold front running effort, a career best I’d guess so we will keep him on the go whilst he remains in such good form. Everyday Champagne (Bruce) takes the water at Perth last week Warriors Story ran well to a point but faded quickly in the home straight, there are a number of possible reasons for this but patience is running out and I suspect a switch to point-to-pointing might work for him, he’d be for sale to ..read more

A special Hexham winner & two runners on Perth Gold Cup Day!

Bright today, very cold for the time of year and the grass has stopped growing,  the wind looks like staying in the North until later next week.  A lovely winner at Hexham last Saturday with So Ladylike breaking her duck and in doing so giving Tash Cookson her first winner under rules, very rewarding for everyone and I think we saw a special Derby winner earlier that day. So Ladylike is driven clear under a thoroughly competent ride from Tash It is very busy here on the yard as we scramble to do a long list of refurbishments and improvements before the horses come back in, we have ..read more
