HOW MUAY THAI SAVED ME By Yana Fleming 10 September 2023 It was early June 2010, and I was in Doha, staying with some friends who were like family. It was a great chance to take a deep breath in a home atmosphere. I had flown over 385,000 miles since the start of the year. I was always on the road between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. The constant travel was affecting not only my concentration but also my figure. All those hotel meals and meetings over drinks had me ballooning to the heaviest I’d ever been. I didn’t know what was worse, that my carefully curated wardrobe no longer fit o ..read more

FROM MS TO MUAY THAI Some stories are just so inspiring that we feel the need to share. This is one of them. Monya is from the Netherlands and she has been training at Rawai Muay Thai for a few weeks. She is very skilled, not a beginner and even did the Pad Holding course with ease. Her Thai boxing skills are so good you would think she was a professional boxer and yet how she got here defies all logic. When she was 18 years old she woke up one day, just like every other day, except that she could no longer move normally. She was suddenly paralyzed from the waist down. There was no explanation ..read more

Sitting Down Is The New Smoking

Sitting Down Is The New Smoking “Sitting Down is the new Smoking” is a phrase coined by Dr James Levine, director of Mayo Clinic at Arizona State University. When I was a full-time Personal Trainer, most of my clients were white collar workers, usually in the financial industry in Hongkong or Singapore. They all have very similar issues, weight gain and lower back pain from eating bad food, doing little to no activity and sitting down all day. Like literally all day. The only times they stood up was when they would go to the bathroom or walk to their car to sit down some more. Then on ..read more

Top 5 Gifts for Muay Thai Trainers I recently wrote an article Gifts for a Personal Trainer and it reminded me of some awkward moments when students at Rawai Muay Thai wanted to thank the trainer for all their hard work and dedication. For some reason, Sang Som was the most common gift given, which was weird because Thais may like whiskey and Sang Som is a Thai whiskey, but they don’t actually like it per say. They drink it because it’s the cheapest and easiest to get, it’s not a nice whiskey and gives epic hangovers. I remember those moments when the student would hand them the big black Sang ..read more

Benefits of Yoga for Men Yoga’s popularity continues to grow not only to the female population but surprisingly to males as well. Men who practice Yoga jumped from 4 million in 2012 to 10 million in 2016 in the U.S., according to a study by Yoga Journal and Yoga alliance. One of the compelling reasons for this trend are the numerous benefits of Yoga for men. Aside from better physical health, Yoga is also known to improve one’s mental health. My name is Craig (Kaeg, my Thai name) Evans, I am 35 years old from Perth Western Australia, and work for a professional sports team here in Perth. Muay Thai has, and always will be a huge part of my life. It’s taken me to some amazing places, and let me meet some amazing people alone the way. To be honest, I have been to Thailand that many times now, I would not to be able to say exactly how many times it has been (somewhere between 15-20). The majority of my time as been spent in Phuket (in particular Thalang), training out of a number of known gyms. My longest time spent in Thailand, was 3 ..read more
