Here’s my answer:
A horse, of course.
A very thick notebook.
A very reliable pen.
With those three things I could be very happy. I would never be bored. Writers write and I am a writer. I always have been. Until very recently, the books you knew me by were training books for horses. But long before I wrote my first training book, “Clicker Training for your Horse”, I was writing children’s books. Three of them, the first in the Kenyon Bear Series were published in the late 1980 ..read more

A New book!! So EXCITING!!
I’m delighted to announce the upcoming publication of
Sara’s Story – The Bear Nobody Wanted.
Sara’s Story is the third book in the Kenyon Bear series.
Normally I write about horses and horse training. There is a connection to the Kenyon Bear Books. Those of you who are familiar with my work know that I often refer to the classic children’s story Black Beauty. I reference that book when I talk about the underlying belief system that supports training choices. In the mainstream, conventional horse world horses are viewed as stupid animals, and because they are stupid ..read more

I just published this week’s Equiosity podcast.
This is Part 3 of a three part conversation.
In Part 1 we talked about resets – what they are and how they can be used to help horses rebalance so they are more in sync with their handlers.
In Part 2 this led to a discussion of shaping on a point of contact, the WWYLM lesson and visualizing your horse as a marching band.
In part 3 explore some useful metaphors that help in understanding lateral work. We begin with Merry-Go-Rounds and then move on to railroad tracks.
At the very end of the podcast I talk about the connection between the horse tr ..read more
