Neither Yang nor Chen family may be the origin of the TaiChi boxing system.

There is some evidence that TaiChi may have not have originated from either Yang or Chen family, but from the Daoist thousand year temple in Tang village. Li Chunmao studied in that temple, and developed further the actual system on which all the current TaiChi styles are based. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Li-Chunmaos-Thirteen-Momentum-Treatise-inscribed-in-the-Ming-Dynasty-Feb-1632_fig2_372246398 Another interesting text: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/318341832_Fighting_Words_Four_New_Document_Finds_Reignite_Old_Debates_in_Taijiquan_Historiography submitted by /u/kuribas ..read more

Without doing a lot of checking, my impression is that Feng tried harder to exhibit the characteristic in public demonstrations. Chen Yu (again, just my impression) seems to recommend it, but in his videos he tends to move more normally, much of the time. Bear in mind that this "sitting on a stool" aspect is ultimately a copy of what Chen FaKe did. I *think* there's a problem with the "sit on a stool" aspect because I think it reflects the actions of someone who is advanced in his moveme ..read more

What do you guys think of the idea that a lower stance is actually better for the knees? I suffer from weak knees but I think there may be some truth to this. If you're low and using your muscles your knees are less likely to be in compromised positions.

This is the current expression of my taijiquan under this ruleset under this level of resistance. I’ve been trying to apply more internal body methods with some success but still a long way to go. submitted by /u/Lonever [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
