hi so im a 17 year old (F) highschool student, who interviewed initially for a server position at a upscale restaurant, (realized when i walked in that you have to be 18 to serve alcohol.) I walked in with my resume and was briefly interviewed by a bar manager who gave me a application form to fill out. she gave me her business card after and told me to follow up with her a week after. during the interview she told me she would most likely have to put me as a hostess for a couple of months 4-6 months to “get myself in the door”, and learn stuff like beers, wines, the menus. i followed up a we ..read more

Hi all! I am a Korean BBQ server who worked up from host through food running up to server. We added an upgrade to the already $29.99 all you can eat menu called the 'Premium Menu' that is the $29.99 dinner price, plus an additional $20 at $49.99 per person for all you can eat. I was a host/food runner for 4 months and got promoted to serving about 3 weeks ago. I am usually 1st, 2nd, or 3rd out of 8 servers in terms of total tips for the night with people working the same shift. But now I am being told that if I can't upsell more of this premium menu, I am going to have my hours significantly ..read more

Gave our server a better tip than she deserved...

Went out to eat tonight. Had a server who was, shall we say, less than enthusiastic about her job. I was charismatic, even got her to smile. I could tell that either, because of the political climate of division, that she didn't want to serve us, or that she hated her job. I believe it was a combination of the two. Either way, she did her job at the bare minimum. But, she dissed me. I called her over and got my second beer, I was in the middle of asking her for boxes, and she completely ignored me and walked away. Either way, I used to be a server, so I tip generously. Even though this server ..read more

Which should I choose?

Hi guys! I recently got accepted to both burger king and Ihop but I'm not sure which to choose. For starters, I'm 17 and this is my first job. Burger king pays $9.50 an hour and is part-time. I love the people there, very friendly, but I don't care for the fast food business or the tasks at hand. I'm willing to work hard and do even the things I don't like for money though. Ihop on the other hand only pays $2.13 an hour because the rest is made up in tips. I'd be a server and work close to full time, 4-5 days a week and I'd take the morning shifts. The staff wasn't nearly as nice or welcoming ..read more

Hey all! I’ve worked in customer service for around 6 years but recently got back into serving at an establishment last December. It’s a bowling alley/arcade/sports bar combination that’s geared more towards families, but also does corporate events, parties, that sort of thing. During peak times of the year, the money is good but when things are slow they’re SLOW slow. I’m talking like we maybe walk away with $50 for a full 6-8 hour shift, in addition to wages. It’s a chill job all things considered, but the compensation is just not livable. The health insurance starts at around $400 a month ..read more

New server threw out my full shift tips in the trash, how should I proceed?

I’m a cocktail waitress at a casino so pretty much everything runs in cash and chips, a new girl just started and it’s her first day on the floor by herself and when she went to leave, someone said she could throw away some of the trash and she didn’t even throw away all of the trash. She just threw away a couple cups including a cup full of my whole day’s tips. It’s common culture between us girls that we all put our chips and chips that don’t fit into our cups on our trays into a little coffee cup with our name labeled on it and everyone does it so for her to mistakenly throw a cup that had ..read more

Servers cleaning duties

Curious… at pubs/sports bars, etc. Who should be the one that has to clean up puke in the bathrooms? Last night a girl puked in our bathroom sink, and my bartender scolded me when I refused to clean it up. I know my rights, and right to refuse is #1. I am there to serve food, and to give a good experience; I am not there to clean disgusting messes. submitted by /u/cheesebrains99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any tips or advice on wording that’s commonly looked for would be great. I have some interviews lined up, I plan on walking into a few places when hours aren’t busy. But any help with resume or important things to highlight. submitted by /u/seeyou_againn [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
