Apollo is a Bearded Dragon and has been with Fireflies for a few months now. He joined us as a little dragon and is growing very quickly! He enjoys eating locusts and meal worms ( and some green leaves if he has to!) but is still a little skittish and getting used to be being held. We love having our unusual pets in school - Apollo joins the gang along with Ember our corn snake ..read more

High School at the forest
The Meadows Montessori School

This afternoon 12 students joined Sam and Claire at Lissy and Laws Adventures - which is a forest school based behind Laurel Farm. We had a great afternoon. We made some lovely crafts and then enjoyed some free time just exploring the forest. It was warm, the air was clear and it felt amazing. To hear the students just 'being' in the woodlands was pure joy. We finished up with cooking some SMores over the firebowl. What a fab afternoon ..read more

For this half terms creative project our high schoolers are out of school and at a local Forest School site. Yesterday was their first session and we took 15 students for an afternoon of forest fun. They had the best time! Starting with a game (that involved hammers, screwdrivers and some competition!) they then whittled their own skewers and chopped veggies to make vegetable kebabs which then cooked over the fire. They then had some free time to just 'be' in the forest and we finished up with a hot chocolate and a game of sardines. Looking forward to going back next week ..read more

Fireflies always have a puzzle on the go and this one has been great fun to complete. 500 pieces but in a circle! This has been a joy to do and a good link to our Great Lesson 2 topic - the coming of life. The children always leave the last piece for Sam to do - but today that was passed onto Lisa! And then a big round of applause all round. What puzzle will we choose to do next ..read more

Thanks to a very generous donor, we now have a defibrillator at the bottom of our driveway at Larchcroft Road. To ensure that all our surrounding neighbours can use it, it is outside our gate so even when school is closed it can be accessed. Here's hoping we never have to use it - but so good to know it is there! ( we love the way it shines so brightly in the dark ..read more
