Adding vintage home decor to your house is a great way to create character and interest. The more vintage items I bring into my home the more I like it! Shopping second-hand for vintage goods started as a way for me to decorate on a budget, but once I started, I couldn’t stop! Today I thought I’d take you on a little walk through my house to show you the vintage decor I’ve acquired over the last several years and how I use it to decorate. Sometimes, I’ll find a piece and know instantly where I’ll use it. Other times I just buy what I love with the hopes of finding the perfect spot for it. Whe ..read more

Can you believe we are only a few weeks from Easter already? Whenever Easter Sunday falls in March it sneaks up on me. It is usually still very cold and not very spring-like. This year we have had many warm days already in New Jersey which has me more ready than I usually feel. On one such beautiful day recently I stopped in Trader Joe’s and left with a few bunches of daffodils. They were just what I needed to add a little color to my hutch and inspire my Easter decorating. The flowers, along with a couple of wooden bunnies were all this area needed for Spring decor. The hutch is an easy area ..read more

Antique Bathroom Vanity Ideas

Lately, I’ve had bathroom renovations on my mind. When it comes to bathroom vanities, I really love an antique bathroom vanity using old furniture. The antique pieces add such character to a space that can otherwise be difficult to add interest to. Using a vintage piece of furniture in the bathroom will require a bit more work than a traditional vanity. You’ll have to have a custom top to fit it and modify the piece for the pipes. Sinks can sit on top or be dropped in if you create an opening. Additionally, if you’re using wood, you’ll have to seal it to protect it from water damage. Things to ..read more

Are you a new orchid owner? Though orchids look like intricate plants, they are relatively easy to care for! With proper care and patience, you can enjoy beautiful blooms for months – several times a year! Orchids are a favorite houseplant among my husband’s family. For that reason, I’ve learned a lot about orchid care over the last several years so today I’m sharing what works for us. I’m not an expert in orchid varieties but the best orchids for houseplants are typically paphiopedilums (aka slipper orchids) and phalaenopsis orchids (aka moth orchids). Slipper orchids are what is shown in th ..read more

via: William Litchfield Designs Don’t you just love a pretty living room that looks collected over time? Layering items is a great way to get that look without the wait. I saw the living room above recently and fell in love with it. Even though there are a lot of things going on in this room, it still feels calm and inviting. I thought this would be a great “get this look” post since I haven’t done one of those in a while! The striped armchair in the inspiration room is a great base. There’s a pattern for interest but the colors are muted so it doesn’t feel too busy. The red and blue pattern ..read more

You guys, this birdhouse DIY project has been a long time in the making! It started when I asked our good friend who is a landscaper and pro-gardener if he’d grow some gourds for me. I wanted to dry a few to have in my shop for the fall. That idea also turned into this birdhouse DIY. I’m covering the entire how-to here, including growing and drying your own gourds. It’s a great project to get you into the spring spirit! The only basic tools you’ll need for this is a drill and a round drill bit. If you don’t want to grow your own, you can find dried gourds for sale in the fall easily enough. I ..read more

COLOR DRENCHED ROOMS – PAINTING ALL SURFACES THE SAME COLOR – ARE A GREAT WAY TO GET A HARMONIOUS LOOK AND OFFERS SEVERAL BENEFITS! Painting your trim color a contrasting color to your walls is something I’ve been seeing more of in the last few years. However, lately, I’ve been noticing trim painted the same color as the walls. Not only that, there’s a trend called color drenched rooms. Meaning, that not only are the walls and trim the same color, but so are the ceiling and the doors. I’m trying to stay away from trends these days because most don’t have long-term staying power. Although this ..read more
