Railway titan Union Pacific recently announced a new partnership with ZTR Control Systems, which specializes in green technology for trains, to build new hybrid-electric locomotives, which are to be constructed at the Union Pacific facility in North Little Rock.
Much like a hybrid car, the locomotives will be capable of swapping between multiple modes, and will feature several ways to charge the batteries, including wayside and onboard charging. The first prototype is expected to be delivered in late 2023, with another five arriving in 2024.

Be Pro Be Proud, an initiative led by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Arkansas (ASCC/AIA), have revealed they are expanding to North Carolina.
In partnership with the North Carolina Home Builders Educational & Charitable Foundation, Inc. and other statewide industry organizations, Be Pro Be Proud NC will launch and begin visiting schools across the state.
North Carolina is the fourth state where the Be Pro Be Proud program operates, with Arkansas, Georgia and South Carolina also being involved.

Pulaski County officials are planning to hold a groundbreaking on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. for a new solar array in the Little Rock Port Authority Industrial Park. The array is expected to bring the county’s renewable energy usage to 90%.
The site is expected to produce 4.7 megawatts of electricity, which in conjunction with the 250 kilowatts provided by an existing solar array near the Pulaski County Detention Center, will be enough to replace 90% of the energy that Pulaski County currently buys from Entergy, and at a significantly cheaper rate.

Harps Food Stores has revealed the store will be entering two new states, Louisiana and Mississippi.
The company purchased The Markets, a Gulf-region independent grocer, according to Supermarket News.
Harps, based in Springdale, is set to acquire all seven of The Markets locations in central Louisiana and southwestern Mississippi. This consists of four stores in Mississippi and three in Louisiana, which will lift Harps over the 140-store mark.
The Markets will remain under the same name and its 350+ employees will maintain their jobs. Minimal day to day changes are expected.

In open court on Tuesday, Little Rock lawyers admitted the city illegally withheld public records from Blue Hog Report blogger, Matt Campbell, who has and open-records lawsuit against the city.
According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, many of these records involved Mayor Frank Scott, Jr.’s LITfest project, a music festival that was canceled just days before it was supposed to kick off – the cancellation stemming from alleged contract violations on behalf of the festival’s organizer, Think Rubix.

The Arkansas Legislature has not been happy about some of the previous ballot issues approved by voters, such as those raising the minimum wage, creating the medical marijuana industry and legalizing casinos in Crittenden, Garland, Pope and Jefferson counties. The Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program awarded the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, or ASPSF, a $7,000 Grant to create the 2023 Union Pacific Scholarship Project.
During the 2023 spring semester, the project will fund scholarships and wraparound services for 10 single parent students in Camden, Hope, Hoxie, Jonesboro, Little Rock, Texarkana and Van Buren.
