Sustainable Self-Care—Tending Your Life Podcast—Episode 65

Looking for Sustainable Self-Care? One of the key reasons I believe so many of us are still looking for self-care that actually works is that the self-care we have isn’t sustainable. In this episode, I talk about what makes our self-care unsustainable, and the key questions to ask to start creating sustainable self-care. LISTEN NOW: APPLE PODCASTS | STITCHER | SPOTIFY Listen to the podcast About the show One of the best things about doing this work for as long as I have is the ability to see patterns over a long period of time. What are people struggling with? What are those tendencies t ..read more

Episode 62—What it’s really like to put yourself out there

LISTEN NOW: ITUNES | STITCHER | SPOTIFY About the show I talk about experiments and experimentation a lot in my work. It’s a cornerstone of my course, The Art of Self-Advocacy, and it’s a huge part of my personal practice of self-care and self-advocacy. It all starts with a question of, “What would happen if…?” In early 2021, I had an experiment in mind. What would happen if I really put myself out there with regards to my writing practice. What would happen if I pitched myself without fear? How could I shift things if I chose to treat myself as a leader whose words could serve and uplift othe ..read more

Sustainable Skincare Favorites: all-natural self-care

Sustainable skincare is really important to me. If I’m putting it on my body, I want to make sure that it’s safe. But I’m also a busy working mom, so it needs to be effective, too. Here are all my favorite things. I’ve tested all of this myself, with my own money first, so you’re getting my honest opinion. Sustainable skincare is also about more than just what’s in it. I’ve made a conscious effort over the last few years to reduce the amount of plastic packaging that’s involved in my self-care routine. There’s a myth that all-natural, sustainable skincare and haircare isn’t as effective as the ..read more

LISTEN NOW: ITUNES | STITCHER | SPOTIFY Listen to the podcast About the show When I first got into the “self-care” game many years ago, Jen Louden was one of the first names I heard. In this conversation, we talk about her book, “Why Bother?”; plus how to find your bother and get your bother on. We also talk about creative process, climate activism, and what it looks like to show up imperfectly and in process. We talk about learning as we go, daring to start imperfectly, and how creativity and imagination can fuel positive solutions for the planet. I loved this conversation so much, and it wa ..read more

The Best Yoga Pants Ever. (And they’re organic!)

Finding the Best Yoga Pants Ever. One of my favorite things about getting older is that, at this point, I’ve tried pretty much everything. I don’t need to hunt around for the latest or trendiest thing. I just want the one thing in each category that really, truly works for me. And more than anything, I wanted to find the best yoga pants ever. (FYI: I’ve rounded up all my favorite resources here.) As someone who taught yoga for many years, still has an active practice, and teaches meditation, I’ve tried basically all the yoga pants that exist. The expensive ones. The really cheap ones. Sadly,&n ..read more

iTunes Stitcher Spotify Listen to the podcast About the show Recently, I’ve been thinking about boundaries. I mean, I’m always thinking about boundaries. But specifically, I’ve been thinking about the way that we create and honor our boundaries in our online and digital spaces. It occurs to me that while we all know intellectually that we need good boundaries for ourselves, they can be hard to create and even harder to maintain. And in the online world, this is doubly true. For two reasons: First of all, it’s endless. The emails keep coming, and the algorithms of social media are designe ..read more

Meditation for Parents: an easy how-to
Christy Tending Healing Arts | Self-Care and Sacred Ritual for World-Changers

Meditation for parents is a bit of a paradox: we know it’s important and it can be difficult to accomplish. When my son was born, I knew I’d be giving up a lot of my old rituals and routines. I was ready, yes, but I knew that it would be a big adjustment. Before I had a baby, I would meditate for at least 30 minutes a day. I’ve been practicing Buddhist meditation for nearly twenty years now, and I now teach meditation to students from all over the world. I’ve even attended multiple-night silent meditation retreats. (My favorite retreat center is Spirit Rock.) When I became a mom, I knew t ..read more

I’ve lived with depression since my teens, which means I have a lot of experience with this illness: in this podcast episode I’m breaking down what you need to know about depression. Whether you’re listening for yourself or someone you love, this is part practical advice and part pep talk to help you remember yourself while you navigate your mental health.
