Bjj in others martial arts gyms

How do we feel about this phenomenon? The last couple of years I’ve seen more and more martial arts gyms also offering bjj. Wing chun clubs, Taekwondo clubs, karate clubs etc etc… I guess some just have bjj apart from their own art but I’ve also seen a bunch that incorporate bjj in their art. So what say you? Is this mostly a good thing, for both bjj and their arts or will it all just become a watered down type of mma eventually? submitted by /u/8379MS [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I know that everyone feels there could be improvement, and there are always people better than you etc etc. But still at one point you can consider yourself ‘good’. How does it feel? submitted by /u/JiuJitsuBoxer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Knee continues to lock when I do BJJ, playing guard is one of the worst thing I can do. Took some time off to continue to lift and run sporadically. Rolled again after 8 weeks. Pop! locked up again pulling someone into guard. Finally scheduled an appointment with an orthopedic doctor and find out I have a grade 2 tear in MCL/LCL and he attributed my knee locking to something called “Hoffa’s fat pad syndrome” I’m not a knee speciality but was told I don’t need surgery by two orthopedic doctors. Paid out of pocket to see a PT who gave me workouts to follow (started this week) and saw a NMD who ..read more

Escaping/countering twister from the back

Hi, just a frustrated white belt looking for some advice. I’ve been looking online but not finding much about dealing with the twister from the back. I am not super familiar with the move but a guy at my gym has been doing it to me constantly in no gi and I’ve only been able to understand that I need to not let him pull my arm behind his head to finish. Are there any basic things I can do to ensure he can’t finish? (Like with armbars slipping the elbow out past the hip meaning you can’t finish?) I really don’t feel comfortable that I understand this spine lock and would like to understand whe ..read more

In a recent interview in Mandarin, Jozef Chen and his training partners laughed at 10P techniques. How come?

In the interview, the guys talked about how early in their BJJ journeys they really liked flashy 10P techniques, and then they all laughed in a way that suggests 10p techniques are not so good and that they don’t use it anymore. Why so? Can someone with more knowledge and experience explain to me why this is? From what I gather, it’s because 1) a lot of the subs - say from truck position, is pain-based rather than based on a valid choke or threat of joint break; 2) twister side mount is somewhat unstable; 3) lockdown is somewhat limiting of your own mobility; 4) rubber guard is easy to nullif ..read more

Kron Instructional Attempt

Kron Graice is a bit out of touch in terms of instructional pricing. Sure the Gordons and Danahers of the world have $200+ sets but those are long, big 6+ hour sets. Not sure anyone would drop $200 on 25 videos from Kron. At least I don't think people would. Has anyone here pulled the trigger?
