How are you all coping with it being December already? It doesn’t seem possible does it? I’ve been busy, busy this week. I put out most of the decorations during the week but waited to decorate the tree until today when Piper could help. It’s fun to have a grandchild nearby that can help with the decorating. We’ve never had that before and I’m taking full advantage of it. This first photo is the string of advent stockings that I made for Piper. You can also see the Noel cups in the left hand corner. I love these cups because they have fun and happy memories attached to them. When our children ..read more

Back to Normal, Whatever That Is!
The Simple Life of a Queen

Hi everybody! First of all, I want to thank each and everyone of you for your well wishes. I’m back to normal, if that’s a good thing! I did end up staying home for Thanksgiving, so whatever bug I had lasted about four days. When I woke up Friday morning, I felt completely fine. We were able to spend the day at the zoo as planned yesterday and today we’ve been at Brad and Mandy’s again all day. Several of the nieces and nephews, their spouses and Brad‘s parents came over for the afternoon. Pizza was provided by Brad and Mandy and Dennis and I. Some of the others brought treats to share. We all ..read more

It’s Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! To my American friends, have you all enjoyed your turkey yet or do you eat later in the day? We had our church harvest dinner on Sunday which was wonderful. Our son and Baby J were able to go with us. Unfortunately Sunday night our son got very sick for a couple of days. I really don’t think it was from the potluck. I think he had picked up a stomach bug somewhere. By Monday night I had it. I think I am on the mend today, but I opted to stay home while everyone else went to Mandy and Brad’s for Thanksgiving dinner. I got up early this morning, washed my hands very well ..read more

It’s late!

It’s pretty late tonight, but I wanted to stop by here and say hello to you all. I probably won’t be posting for the next couple of weeks and I don’t know how much I’ll be online. We have family coming to stay with us beginning tomorrow, until after Thanksgiving. But I did want to show you the progress on Miss Piper’s sweater. This evening was devoted to knitting the pocket flaps and the pockets themselves. I have never knitted pocket flaps or pockets before, so this was a new experience. They haven’t been sewn down yet, so they don’t look like much here. I think I’m happy with the way they tu ..read more

Thank you! There were so many well wishes for Dennis and his surgery in my last post. You're all so kind and we both appreciate each and every one of them. He's doing very, very well. On Tuesday we returned to the hospital and the surgeons office where he exchanged the HUGE, bulky cast for this. He has not had one bit of pain since the surgery and hasn't taken even a single tylenol for pain. God has indeed been with him, because looking at the next photo, I don't see how it can possible not be very painful. If you have a queasy stomach, I suggest you pass by the next bit. ?‍? How can that NOT ..read more

The Last Surgery (We Hope)
The Simple Life of a Queen

Happy Saturday evening everyone. Whew! It's been a week. We had appointments and commitments every day this week and then on Thursday Dennis had his second surgery on his thumb. This one was much more invasive and lasted a LOT longer. Then they had a very hard time waking him up. He said they used a different anesthesia on him this time. We were there much later than when they did the last surgery in June. Here he is just before they took him away from me. I won't show the photo from when they brought him back from recovery. He looked awful but we couldn't have asked for nicer nurses. They wer ..read more

Happy Monday everybody! Can you believe I’m doing two posts within a matter of days? Whoo-hoo! Since my last one was so full and newsy, and I didn’t have room to show you what I’ve been working on, I thought I would do a quick post just to bring you up-to-date. First, though, look at this gorgeous photo that my friend Kari in Spokane posted on Facebook. This was a rose in her yard when they got their first snowstorm. Isn’t it stunning? I finished a prayer shawl for the hospital last night. I used the same diamond pattern that I made the last two baby blankets with. It’s such an easy pattern ..read more

A Beautiful Day at The Garden and Other Happenings

I’ve been away for a while again. Nothing exciting, just life has been happening. We have been so busy every day and I just haven’t had time to sit down and do a blog post. I’ve tried to comment on blog‘s every day, but usually it’s one or two at a time as I have a minute here and there. Dennis’s uncle and two cousins were here from Minnesota from Thursday of last week until Sunday. That kept us busy visiting with them and not being home much at all. One of the things we did was go to the Lauritzen Garden here in Omaha. Many of the flowers were gone for the year, but there is still a lot of b ..read more

Busy Days of Fall
The Simple Life of a Queen

We’ve had a busy few weeks here. Guess who turned 11? Gosh, it’s so hard to believe that she is 11 years old. We had a small party with just the grandparents and Brad’s brother Bill, last Friday night. We had a fun dinner and then had cake. Piper loves sea turtles and I think Mandy did a great job of drawing the sea turtle on this cake. Piper was thrilled with it! Of course, she very much enjoyed the opening of her gifts. We were the boring grandparents and bought her a gift card to Barnes & Noble. We just talked to them and she went there today and found some books she wanted. She receiv ..read more

???Fall Y’all! ??It’s here!??

This is one of my favorite seasons of the year, if only it didn’t mean winter was close behind. Oh, the coolness of fall I adore you.  Not too many leaves are changing here yet, but we’ve had some very cool nights and so I think it will start soon. We’re supposed to be back into the 90s by the weekend though, so we will have some good old fashioned “Indian summer” in the days ahead.  I didn’t put out nearly as many decorations this year as I usually do, but I thought I would share a little bit of what I have done. This is on top of the fireplace mantle. I do like those buffalo plaid ..read more
