Caraway Seeds for Rye Ale

I’ve tried to get a nice rye flavor and have used up to 33.3% but still that nice rye flavor eludes me. I see a Roggenbier typically use 50-65% but am unclear on how they get the mash to run smoothly. Ruthless Rye IPA from Sierra Nevada is the only beer I’ve been happy with. My wife suggested it may be caraway I’m looking for. Any advice on how much one would want to use in 2.5 gals roughly 6 ..read more

Hops for Honey Wheat

I’ve been making a honey wheat that has no late addition hops as I wanted the honey to stand out. But my wife and I have succumbed to the need for hops and despite appreciating most beer styles we really just want an IPA. I’m tired of beer sitting around unopened so I’m shifting gears here. I’m looking for it to be around 35-45 IBUs and wondered if anyone had suggestions for hops that would pair well. I figured Lemon Drop might be a good fit I’m just not that fond of lemon. Floral? Citrusy ..read more

Hi I’m Mark, from Wellington NZ I’ve been brewing for about 10 years. First with extract but have moved on to all grain using SS Brew Tech kettle, camping gas burner, SS Brew Bucket and BrewInABag. Now I use a Grainfather s40 for brewing as electricity is safer and more reliable (windy Wellington often blows the flames out when using gas). I didn’t feel the need to get a Bluetooth brew vessel. The only thing I don’t like about the s40 is the size. It’s too wide for a normal 23l brew... Read more ..read more

Squarrel square "barrel" 10gal with TC fittings

read about it at their website. biggest benefit in our opinion is the flexibility. you can make a barrel of any wood (or liquor) you want. just buy some wood, cut it into shape, and you've got a barrel of anything you can find. cedar, juniper, cherry, apple, etc. can also soak them in booze for whiskey, rum, tequila, etc. it definitely "wastes" way less booze. and unlike a traditional barrel that is now a whiskey barrel, you can just set aside the whiskey staves, and swap new ones... Hey there folks! I'm new to the hobby. Just mashed and boiled my first all grain beer 8 days ago. Have done kits before but just bought a Brewzilla to take it to the next level. I'm 47 and I don't understand why I didn't start 25 years ago So much to learn and so many experiments ahead and I love it Btw I'm from Iceland ..read more

So we had our first 90 degree day of the year on Monday, and of course one of my heat pumps conked out. The 240V/40A breaker for the compressor had tripped and could not be reset unless I turned the system off. Then it would trip again as soon as I put it back in cool mode and set the temperature below ambient. Since I can't get a tech out here until next Tuesday, I decided to check the capacitor because a) it's easy, b) they fail often, and c) I've heard that a stalled motor can mimic a... Gardening 2024 - Whatcha got going on this year?

Depending on where you live in the northern hemisphere, gardening is already underway or still an anticipation of what's soon to come I'm giving a first stab at growing veggies from seeds vs buying live plants at a garden center. This is largely because I'm no longer in a large metropolitan area with overflowing garden centers filled with endless varieties of veggie and flower offerings tempting me to overfill my garden space. I ordered seeds (mostly maters and peppers) and began the... Read more ..read more
