Hi All, just changing everything over to Eva Barrier and Duotight. I am using fermentation gas to purge the dry hop and serving kegs, then gas out of serving keg to a jar of sanitizer for blowoff. Will the 4mm tubing be big enough for moderate fermenting yeasts? I put some gas in the fermenting keg to check all the fittings for leaks. The bubbles coming out of the blowoff were quite small. About to brew a 1.063 IPA with Apex San Diego yeast. What do you think ..read more

Need to get my new Foundry wired up. I have been looking at GFCI breakers for my panel and apparently the GFCI breaker is about $140.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ECKLKBM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1QRT0RAXAWMKI&psc=1
Panel is Eaton CH type. I see there are also inline GFCI's which may be a bit cheaper. Just wondering if there's a preferred way to go? I also saw mention of a spa subpanel, but those seemed to be over $100, so I'm not sure that buys be a whole lot of $$...

I'm trying to get back in on a cheaper basis - previously ended up with about 12 gallons cast wort on a 20-gallon Spike propane system. I want to go in on the cheaper basis because it's quite possible I'll be expanding later, possibly to a HERMS of one make or another (never done electric before, but seeing a lot of pluses now).
Using a 10-gallon converted Igloo for the MT and an existing 7-gallon stockpot from our former restaurant for sparge. Presuming brewhouse efficiencies as...

I've seen the recipe for making invert sugars numbers 1, 2, and 3 on the unholymess.com blog. The process here involves inverting raw or partially-refined cane sugar with heat and acid and then developing color using relatively low heat (240 F) for prolonged times (hours). Given the low temperature, color formation is presumably from caramelization of fructose.
I've also seen various recipes for making Belgian candi sugar which involve inverting refined sugar (beet or cane) with heat and...

As a complete newbie myself, I wanted to take the time to post and update a list of equipment and things to watch out for that helped, hindered and really made all the difference to me.
Hopefully it will help anyone else looking to get into the hobby. Please note, I am in Canada and so not all the things I mention may be available to you locally but I will do my best to provide options. I am also operating under the assumption that as a beginner, you will be looking to make 1 gallon batches...

Hello all.
After a first brew that I am sure is a disaster for now, 10 days into the fermentation it has been acting very erratic. I have identified many of the things I did wrong. So here is my second go.
Components:
Lalvin 71b, Blueberry blossom honey and clover honey respectively (Purchased from Honeybee Centre in Langley, BC. Good stuff!) , Go Ferm, Fermaid O, Cinnamon sticks, Cloves, Nutmeg Powder and plenty of Canadian tap water from Beautiful BC after it's been run through a Britta...

Hey Guys
It's been nany years since I last brewed beer , and boy things have changed.
Last week bottled my first, a Tynside brown , but I wanted it to be hoppy so using 750ml bottles I used 100g of hops soaked in cold water for 30 minutes then as bottling placed 50ml of the sieves liquid into each
After 1 week settling in bottles I tasted a bottle, tastes real good but not hoppy enough I used pellet hopdps any suggestions
Cheers ..read more

My brother in law was kind enough to give me a few of his used 64 to 67 ounce growlers that he had laying around. Two are from Russian River Brewing and have the flip tops, so those I know I just have to more or less clean, sanitize and change out the rubber gasket. The one in question has a screw top to it. Having never seen one of those, I am a bit unsure of how I go about obtaining a new top? I have seen them on Amazon so I know they are there, but are they reusable? The one on there...

Does anyone know why a beer would have low carbonation when the co2 levels are reading normal? My new diy kegerator is on its second set of kegs. Everything poured as expected on round one. I cleaned the lines and tapped a double IPA on the one and left the second empty keg in there as I haven’t replaced it just yet. For weeks this beer has been pouring as if there is almost no co2 whatsoever. I checked the gauge and it read 10 psi. I bumped it to 15 psi a week ago and yet, still seeing the...
