Ramadan is not just a time of fasting and prayer; it's a period of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and community. Yet, for children, grasping the significance of this blessed month can be challenging amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. As parents, it's natural to want to create memorable experiences for our children during Ramadan, and often, this involves emphasising the external aspects such as Ramadan decor and elaborate iftar meals. However, in our efforts to make the month special, we may unintentionally prioritise the festivities over the spiritual essence ..read more

When my son moved up from a familiar, friendly primary school - where he was known and loved and had never been in trouble - to a big, scary secondary school full of strangers - where he landed a detention in the first week for a hidden Velcro strap on his formal shoes – he became extremely sad and anxious.
As any parent would understand, it was heart-breaking to see him that way. He lost his smile. He wasn’t eating properly, and he was fearful of going to school. I had to bring him out of it, so every day, I explained some things to him which, by Allah’s will, eventually got him through.

Muharram is the first month in the Islamic calendar, so it’s the start of a new year. It is one of the four sacred months.
The Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to fast in the month of
Muharram.
Here is a hadith:
Ibn Abbas (ra) said, “I never saw Allah’s Messenger (saw) so keen to fast any day and give it priority over any other than this day, the day of Ashura, and this month, meaning Ramadan” (Bukhari).
And another:
"The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: 'The best of fasting after
Ramadan is fasting Allah's month of Muharram.'" (Muslim)
Did you notice? The prophet (saw) called it Allah’s month, the ..read more

Saying Bismillah is no small thing. It is asking Allah’s help, asking Him to be with you in whatever you are about to do.
If you start anything important without bismillah, you lose the blessings in what you are about to do, but if you say it, subhanAllah, say it knowing that blessings, goodness, strength, faith, guidance, honour, light - whatever you need from Allah is with you.
If you are nervous, because you are about to speak in front of others, you say bismillah and Allah’s strength will be with you. If you are afraid, say bismillah and Allah’s protection will be with you. If you are sta ..read more

Is your child running to salah happily, when you call? If not, this free e-book is for you!
When our children reach the age where they should start praying, all we want is for them to do it with their hearts! Lately, I've had a few parents begging the question - what do we do when they don't want to pray?
So we've put together a 14-page PDF, packed with inspiration. It's narrated by our fictional character, Eliyas, who features in the Eliyas Explains books. He's a 9-year old with a passion for video games and cookies. Eliyas narrates this piece just as your child's friend would, which makes i ..read more
