Before and after of my breakfast at almost 2 years post-op

Before and after of my breakfast this morning (I had a few bites of egg and a bite of toast before taking the “before” picture lol). I also had an iced mocha that I managed to finish. I’m almost 2 years post-op from my RNY. My restriction goes up and down a lot - today feels like a high restriction day but just last week I felt so hungry I could eat the world. A lot of it depends on my period and my hormones, to be honest. Mostly I give myself permission to eat anything I want in moderation and I feel like I’ve managed to achieve a lot of food freedom with the surgery. I’ve actually manag ..read more

Hi everyone, I was doing so well. At nearly 9 months post RNY, I have gone from 398 (342 at surgery) to 228 pounds. I swam twice a week and went to yoga and the gym at least three other days. I could walk a little without my cane! I have arthritis and one big motivator to lose weight is to get a knee replacement. And then 2 weeks ago I put down a lot of mulch and a bag of rocks in my garden and my knee gave out. I’m in constant pain. I’m using a walker around the house and everywhere I go. I have trips and concerts planned over the summer and I don’t know if I can make it. The knee replacemen ..read more

I'm having my VSG on May 20th! I'm so excited and it feels so real now. I have 2 weeks to stock up on good shakes and 1 month to get everything prepared. Any tips? Edit: I do not plan on buying bulk for shakes. Just enough for the 2 week preop liquid diet and enough for 2-3 days of post surgery. I was fortunate enough to get many samples from a friend who works in bariatric for post surgery. So yeah I will definitely not go crazy. The only thing I am stocking up on in flavorless protein powder. What I really wanted to get advice on are things that might make recovery easier? Things you wish y ..read more

Modified Duodenal Switch???

Hi friends! I am having weight loss surgery on April 24, 2024. I am using Dr. Roller w/ Roller Weight Loss. My insurance denied coverage for a SADI-S, so he is going to perform a traditional duodenal switch (with two anastomoses). However, he is going to make my common channel a lot longer than a traditional DS to avoid the risk of nutritional deficiencies. I think it's ridiculous that my insurance is requiring my doctor to cut me more and do a more complicated surgery with more risks. I am feeling a little worried about this. I've heard the horror stories of folks after traditional DS proced ..read more

Post surgery suggestions!

Hello! I’m having surgery April 29th (gastric bypass) and I was just curious, what are some things you didn’t think you would need, but definitely actually helpful for your hospital stay and post surgery? Also, I’m having a lot of intrusive thoughts about dying during surgery as well so any suggestions on how to mentally not want to cry all day is also appreciated. I’m super nervous and a mom so I’m worried about my 4 year old trying to jump and climb all over me as well so ideas on not lifting your kid over 10lbs for a month is also appreciated. ? Thanks! submitted by /u/Quirky-Fox6776 [vis ..read more
